My plan to win with Orton

I think we are going to find out that Romo makes our offensive line look better than it really is. How many plays did Romo make by using his spin move and moving up in the pocket? Orton still might be able to step up, but he is not as accurate on the move, and has zero chance at the spin move.

Philly pass defense is as worse as ours. If Orton can't take advantage of a weak defense and put up points, we are paying the wrong guy to be Romo's backup

Philly has allowed 21 points or less in 10 of their last 11 games.

Philly will put up 45-plus points. Orton can't do that. Romo can.

This will be brutal.
am pretty sure we held them to 3 points in the last meeting, so either we were lucky or had a good game plan for that offense. The assumption that they will put up 40 on us has very little basis.

Our defense needs to hold up in order for Kyle to manage the game. If he ends up having to get into a shoot out, it won't work in our favor. We need a score from D/ST in this one, or a critical turnover. Most importantly, we need to maintain gaps on defense to stop McCoy.

Garrett needs to give the same advice that his wife gave him on Thanksgiving day game when he beat the Packers.
She told him, just throw it long to Alvin Harper...well, just throw it long to Dez....

Here's my game plan for winning with Orton. Admittedly, I'm not an expert, but this is what makes sense to me:

1. Run the ball. We've got a good O-line this year and a very good running back. Learned your lesson from the Packer game? Good. Then RUN it! We need to now more than ever since Orton lacks Romo's ability to escape and extend the play. The Eagles will likely game plan to stop the run and make us win via the air. Run anyway. We have a good enough line and RB that we could get running yards anyway. Plus, that sets up ...
2. Play action. Use it and use it wisely. The Eagles are a team that over-pursues. They'll key in on Murray and we hit an open Witten, Dez, Beasley, whoever.
3. Control the clock. Our D sucks. It might be passable if it's kept rested. Long, sustained drives let'em rest and keep the ball out of the hands of the opposing offense.
4. Protect Orton. The first 3 above will do much to do that. If we get into the disastrous pass, pass, pass mode, we invite Orton to get clobbered.
5. Take our shots down the field. If we do the first 4, the field will open up and we CAN pass some.
6. Use plays that Orton has proven in practice to excel at. If there's some great play that Romo has pulled off great, but Orton sucks at it, throw it in the trash. Use what Orton does well, not what Tony does well.
7. We need some help from special teams. It looks like we signed the right guy in return man, Micheal Spurlock. Give him some lanes. Maybe he can break another one.
8. Create takeaways. The one thing this D excelled at, at least earlier in the season, was takeaways. We need them to find a way to do that again. If we succeed in the plan to keep the D off the field too much, they'll be more rested and have a better chance at those takeaways.
9. Give Murray some breaks by letting Tanner, Randle, and maybe even Cluuts do a little of the running.

Good plan if it somehow worked.

That's a giant, Macy's parade balloon sized IF, btw.

It is a legit plan though.

the first step in the plan of helping Orton win, dont play Orton.

Orton has to be jumping out of his skin to get this opportunity.

I'd be happy as can be.

If he can win Sunday..

..immediate Cowboy legend.

He can do it..but the rest of the team has to follow with 60 minutes of football.

Othwise it doesn't matter who takes the snaps.

Give Demarco Murray the ball at least 30 times and use play-action passes, simple to me!

If this team changes it's game plan totally, I'm gonna go to Valley Ranch and demand an explanation why....

Let's see if the Eagles blitz Orton early....

It may not be AS bad, but we might see shades of the Testeverde/Bledsoe era come Sunday night. All philly has to do is blitz and if Orton's first option isn't open, its a sack. Orton's mobility might be one notch above Testeverde and Bledsoe

There are some positives to Orton starting.

--If it's open Orton could run for a first down so the defense has to defend that.

--Tony's accuracy has been off lately and it could be partly due to his back.

--A lot of times Murray is open with a lot of field in front of him and Romo throws down field incomplete instead, Orton would probably be more likely to take the dump off.

Well I see backups putting up big games all over the league (not just against us). I don't think you abandon the game plan too much. Run on first down and play action deep early on might be a good idea, to get Philly on its heels. This is the same defense that let Matt Cassel torch them just two weeks ago. I know we need to rely on Murray but let Orton air it out as well. I think we see a lot of slant and screens.

How about putting Dez back on punt returns for this game? Spurlock bad that nice return, but c.mon that was all blocking.

No basis?

It was incredibly windy, and Foles was
concussed.

And look at Dallas' defense since. And the Eagles offense since.

A Cowboy win would be one for the ages. I'd love it, but it ain't happening.
