So much of our adult life is spent trying to recapture the sheer joy we felt as kids on Christmas morning. It was the joy of surprise. It was hearing the crinkle of wrapping paper and discovering a gift you didn't think you would get. And it's a kind of joy that's been missing from Cowboys football for a very long time.

Don't get me wrong. They've surprised us in recent years, but the surprises haven't been good--losing games despite 23 point second half leads, calling a timeout right before your kicker boots the game winning field, blowing a plus four turnover differential. If the Cowboys can give us bad surprises, why can't they give us good surprises as well? Why can't they surprise us by beating the Eagles tomorrow night?

I concede the odds are stacked against them. There's no reason to believe they can win. The defense is the worst in franchise history. The star quarterback is out for the season. The backup hasn't played substantial minutes in two years. The Eagles are on a roll coming off a 50 point shellacking of the Chicago Bears. But isn't that the essence of surprise? Isn't it getting one outcome when all available evidence pointed to the other outcome? Isn't it getting the Transformer when your parents told you all they could afford was Gobots?

Maybe there's one more present under the tree. Maybe, come Sunday night, we all get to feel like kids on Christmas morning again.

I still get that Christmas feeling before most meaningful Cowboys games.

Our win last Sunday felt like getting an awesome Christmas gift... then the Romo news Monday was like my parents saying, "Just kidding!" and taking all my gifts back.

Wait til tomorrow night. Your parents saved an extra gift for you. Its the Orton box. Hiding back behind the tree. You may open it after the game.:D

Just saw the eagles arriving in Dallas on the news.

They seem really pumped/cocky.

Trent cole said this was the biggest game of his life? What? The guy played in the Super Bowl and two championship games.

Starting to think so much is going against us the cowboys just might pull this out.

It's our defense though, how can it get any stops? Especially with ware having even more issues this week.

They're pumped because they're playing good ball...why wouldn't they be pumped?

And Trent Cole has not played in a Super Bowl...he was drafted in 2005; the year after we went to the SB. So he's played in one NFCCG and that was in 2008 against ARZ.

My fault, I thought he was acquired via a pick they traded for from Washington in 2004.

Guess it was 05 and the player was James thrash.

And I think they should be pumped, they just looked cocky. Big difference

All good...for being a 5th rounder outta U of Cincy he's put together a nice career though. He's now 2nd on the Eagles all time sack list as he just passed up Clyde Simmons

I haven't met 1 Eagle fan that I liked. Sorriest fanbase in the league.

It's the season for miracles!

And I think we owe them one for 2006 when Jeff Garcia came in here and won the division for Philly.

I remember Merrill Reese on the radio that night talking about what a Merry Christmas that win was. Yuck! I can't stand listening to his voice in the first, but hearing him gush all over the win was incredibly off putting.

Well...that's your opinion. You mustn't get out much because believe it or not there are good Eagle fans around.

you seem to be one of the very few.

you got to admit if you are a classy fan though....you should be embarrassed by the other 95%.

one the main reasons i've been a fan of this team since 1975 is because we have classy players and fans.

Honestly? Fan behavior from all teams has gotten poor.

My biggest thing I have noticed is that many younger fans try to keep this "700 level stigma" up where they feel they have to be tough guys at the games. I am old enough and mature enough to just want to go to the ballgame and have a good time. Now I will talk trash with the best of them, especially since I am in Texas now, but I don't want to fight over a damn sporting event. That's stupid and I'd like to not lose my job because I fought at an NFL game.

Quick story...my best friend is a Cowboy fan. We went to the MNF in 2008 when DeSean dropped the ball before the goal line and where the Eagles barely lost (McNabb driving and Ware sacked him to end it...)

We're sitting pretty close to the top of Texas Stadium...maybe 8 rows from the top. We get to our seats and I'm the green dot in a sea of white, which I am fine with. Except that one guy...this drunkard from the top row was on me the entire pre-game. He could barely stand up straight but he wants to fight? So I sit there and ignore him...which only enrages him more. He eventually passes out for most of the first quarter and then disappeared. But stuff like that? Not worth my time...I just wanna watch the ballgame and have a good time.

Eric Allen and Bobby Taylor were two of my faves because of what they did against Irvin...they had some fun battles.
