riddick is the sharpest mind out there imho.
a must follow on twitter.

melton is a quality young guy but off-field and injury concerns limit his value.
as does his relative lack of overall NFL success. 15.5 sacks total for his career.

Completely agree. I understand the urgency to shore up the d-line but I don't get the lovefest for Melton.

I still think Dallas needs to load up on d-linemen early in the draft rather than take their chances on a guy like Melton, even if Marinelli does think highly of him.

What a misleading way to present a stat. 13 of those sacks came in his last two full seasons (2011 and 2012).

Followed with this..so he isn't a fan. And if he was right at all...have no opinion...then our line wouldn't be the "strong group."

Competitiveness issues very frustrating when watching him play. Should be so much better than he is. Needs strong group around him.

As bad as you think Melton is, he's 100x better than anyone we have. That's scary!!!

I haven't seen the tape but the games I did see him play he was OK. He didn't jump off the screen. He might want a boat load of cash and we are not only not able to give it to him but we can't afford him. Let's move on here.

No one knows the kid better than RM and he might have told the FO that he just isn't worth it?

How is that misleading?
He does have 15.5 sacks for his career correct?

He has 6 sacks in the previous 2 years.
He has a career high of 7 sacks.
He played 3 games last year with 0 sacks.

Guess what? No matter how you phrase it, it is middling production.
He's never been a top 50 pass rusher in any one season.
He's not an elite guy.

He simply meets the under 30 criterion and he's played 3T for Rod so he immediately becomes the best player ever to lace up cleats to those on this board.

Truth is Crawford is probably a better football player especially if you gauge salary.

I'd welcome Melton in at a very reasonable contract and as part of the DL rotation.
But he isn't replacing Hatcher or Ware MUCH LESS BOTH.

BTW, Ware's last two FULL seasons he had 31 sacks....
you happy now???

If we had alot of the other talent needed on this team to really improve already..

cutting Ware and Austin and not resigning Spencer could be overcome with adding a guy like Melton and Allen.

But adding them now just holds the team re-construction back.

Forget FA.

The draft and looking at FA cuts in June and on into TC is the path.

After the draft..teams will be cutting numerous players they aren't interested in but we maybe.

Let's wait and see.

So if the plan is to simply draft better, does signing a veteran make it absolutely impossible to draft someone at their position?

I did not know that.

Yep, Rod Marinelli should consult with Riddick the expert.

I did not know that.

That's not what he said.

He said it makes no sense to tread water by adding slightly lesser high priced veterans to replace high priced veterans for an 8-8 team.
That we finally bit the bullet and started a true rebuild.

Allen and Melton only make sense if they are cap values.
Since both guys are talking to half a dozen teams you can bet they are getting a true sense of their value around the league.

I'd welcome both but at no where near the money Hatcher and Ware combined for.
