It is not your imagination.

Dallas - Melton, Mincey, McClain
Philadelphia - Sproles (trade), Malcolm Jenkins, Nolan Carroll, Andrew Gardner, Brian Braman
Washington - Jackson, Ryan Clark, Andre Roberts, Shawn Lauvao, Mike McGlynn, Clifton Geathers, Daryl Sharpton, Akeem Jordan, Tracy Porter
Giants - Rashad Jennings, Geoff Schwartz, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jameel McClain, Ayers, Mario Manningham, Walter Thurmond, Trindon Holliday, John Jerry, Charles Brown, Zack Bowman, J.D. Walton

All in all, it looks like the Giants secured more starters, but also gave their depth a facelift. Washington added a good weapon in Jackson and got a starting SS with some depth. The Eagles, not too impressed as only Sproles is very good. Jenkins will start for them but based off how poor he was in New Orleans, not scary.

II think DJax and Roberts will help WAS. Schwartz and Thurmond will help NY. Sproles will help Philly. Otherwise, it looks a lot like what we did two years ago - a lot of names, but nobody of any real significance. NY signed a bunch, but tough to say if most of those guys will do much, and with the players they lost, they still have a good bit of work to do in the draft.

I wish we could have been more active, but I'm not so big on FA's as others are. Seems like most don't help their new teams all that much.

Nowhere to go but up, but it McClain is a starter for us, we will have issues just like we did with Hayden in there by default. The way they are talking about McClain scares me to be honest. It is almost like they are trying to convince us and themselves that he was some gem they unearthed.

I don't disagree with you there. I'm not saying it's a major upgrade, but it is better. But yeah, I don't really care to see us hang our hat on the guy.

It's funny, when other teams go big in free agency it's because they are committed to winning. When Dallas does it, it is desperation.

Much rather try the strategy of building through the draft, keeping our own and using free agency to supplement.

Ayers sucks anyways. Wasnt going to make a bit of difference to the absolute non-existant pass rush that Jerral has put together.

I think it's a necessity for Dallas to use at least two of its first three picks on DL, even if it has to move around some to do it. This defense's improvement hinges on putting together a line that can put constant pressure on the quarterback.

I guess it depends on how you define necessity. This is basically a rebuilding year for the Cowboys or whatever people want to call it. The number of DL drafted or not drafted in the 2nd/3rd round is doubtful to make a big difference in the 2014 win loss record, IMO.

Everybody is focused on the defense and DL, but the Cowboys basically have Zero backup Guards on the team. They have a guy Chris DeGeare that has not played since 2010 and the possibility that OT Weems could move to Guard, but I don't think he has ever played Guard in preseason or in college.

If the DL is not good, then at worst case they lose games. If the OL does not play well, they could lose the QB.

Madden 25 -- but as far as I can tell, player ratings can vary/fluctuate drastically over the course of a career. I'm currently in year 2015 -- he very well could have had better ratings at the start of 2013 but dropped off since then.

Yeah that's what happened lol

Fair post, but he's shown enough ability that if he can stay healthy (big IF) then he can be a depth/bottom of rotation guy. The following is a decent article on him, but what I like is that the writer flat out says they'll draft 4-5 young Dlinemen. Doesn't mean they will, but if we draft 3 (which I HAVE to think we will) we will be fine.

Gonna sting for a couple years only winning 5-7 games but this had to be done IMO. I'm surprised JJ is actually holding back while Snyder continues to wallow in mediocrity in DC, but it appears someone has gotten in his ear and he's actually listening. I did want Ayers but now that it didn't happen, I can accept it.

I like the potential of Bass, but I'm just trying to be realistic. He's been injured both years that he's been with the Cowboys and he was not a starter in college.

I don't think it needs to "sting" for a couple of years. They just needed to take a step back this year. Once they get some stability with Marinelli's defense and have a few young players develop in 2014, then by next off-season they can use the cap space that they saved this season to target a couple of quality free agents to fill their top needs.

That is going to make the draft interesting for you.

Yes, this is the type of year where I would like to see all of the draft picks make the team. With the team taking a step back this year, they don't really need to use a roster spot on a player like Spencer, IMO. Just fill those spots with draft picks and try to develop them, then come back in 2015 with a talented young core with some experience. They can add a couple of quality free agents next off-season to cover any positions where the young players have not quite developed.

The way that I've watched game the past few years, it's fun when they have a lot of young players with upside playing. I'm so focused on the details of each play and player, that sometimes I have no idea what the actual score is by the end of the game.

Josh Brent should be able to participate fully in camp, and then might serve a suspension for the start of the regular season.

He looked pretty good when he played before. Hopefully he can keep his head on straight if we bring him back to the team.

What's the chance those 7th rounders make it, maybe 2, but after the draft I'm sure we get some veterans on the cheap well at least I hope

One of the biggest problems with the Cowboys over the years has been that they tended to keep too many stopgap veterans instead of young players with upside.

Just think of all the fun he and Melton can have together.

Bass has been injured 2 years in a row. He's in the Matt Johnson category of just being a bonus if he contributes, but I'm not expecting anything from him. In my plan Bass just needs to show more upside than late round pick.

I don't disagree. However, I don't expect the cowboys to release Bass (nor Johnson for that matter) until it's painfully obvious that they should be released.

I don't think it has to be a rebuilding year. Dallas has an entire starting offense in place. Some might argue with Bernadeau starting, but I don't think Dallas feels it has to replace him and the line can succeed in protecting Romo with Bernadeau in there. Yes, there are some depth questions, but there are always depth questions.

It has at least two out of its three starting linebackers, depending on Carter, its top three corners and probably won't make a move at safety considering some of the "developing" youth there.

The weak spot is clearly the defensive line, and a first-round starter there, would at least give Dallas two "quality" starters. Adding another contender to the line in the second round might make it three linemen out of four, with Spencer, Selvie, Crawford, Bass contending to make it four out of four. Being competitive instead of "rebuilding" is not that far away. Dallas just doesn't want to have to spend recklessly to be competitive.

Let's not forget that there will most likely be another set of veteran free agents to consider when guys start getting cut after June 1st or during training camp. It wouldn't surprise me if we add some reasonably priced veteran help to the DL at that point.

I doubt there will be much more available after june 1st, most teams have more cap money this year than in prior years and the players that could have helped would already be let go.

There's no reason to release them. The more players that they can bring to training camp that have pnysical upsides, the better. It cost zero between now and training camp.

I would always try to stash some players on IR when possible which is where these guys have been.

I notice you had to leave off Weeden due to your agenda, hater.
