And they should if he's there

I don't get the logic of using a fist round pick on a QB when your current QB is in the 2nd year of a $100 million dollar extension with almost half totally guaranteed.

What are we going to do with Romo, let him watch from the bench? I have never heard of a backup QB making $100 million dollars.

If he gets to #5 I'll be SHOCKED.

Houston - Needs him
St. Louis - Needs him
Jags - Needs him
Cleveland - Needs him
Raiders - Needs him
Atlanta - nope
Tampa - Needs him
Vikings - Needs him

Yup, I see the Jags and Cleveland fighting over him. One of those teams might trade with St. Louis to get in front of the other team. Both of them desperately need a QB. Houston and St. Louis are going to pass on him, Oakland has their guy for now, Tampa hasn't showed any interest, the Vikings acted like they weren't interested but who knows. Anyway, no way he drops past the 4th pick IMO.

Romo's health is why if Justin Bieber is there at 16, it's best to take him. If nothing else, the Cowboys really need to find his replacement real soon!

I get what you're saying, but the illogical move is the 100 million dollar extension, not the drafting of a possible franchise QB.

If the Cowboys got him, what good would it do? We could have Payton Manning next year but if the defense cannot make the other team punt, or the defense can't let a team get 40 first downs, what the hell is Manziel going to do?

Provide stability at the most important position on the field for 12 years??

That's what the Chargers thought when the drafted Ryan Leaf. You don't know if he will pan out and last for 12 years. Of course that can be said about any football player...

1. There are at least 6-8 blue chip prospects in the top of the 1st round ~ Clowney, Robinson, Mack, Watkins, Mathews, Lewan, Evans & it is not unlikely that Aaron Donald would a prize selection within the first 10 players selected.

2. The drop off to the 2nd tier QB's from the 1st tier is not that far off ~ Carr, Savage, Garoppolo, Mettenberger, & McCarron all could be rated just slightly lower than Manziel, Bridgewater or Bortles. More important, those QB's would be available in the very early 2nd round.

Realistically, the QB needy teams are Houston, Jacksonville, Cleveland, & Minnesota.
Minnesota, Cleveland, & Jacksonville in addition have recently been burned by selecting QB's early in the 1st round -- see the draft of 2011 -- why would they make the same gamble just 3 years later?

If those teams could get a combination of let's say of Mack & Carr, or a Mathews & Garoppolo, it would relieve them of the pressure of selecting a QB in the 1st round.
Hence, Manziel (or even Bridgewater) could slide to Dallas at 16.
If that happens, what will Jerry & Co. do?

When drafting, try implementing a long-term vision of the organization rather than band-aid approach of picking players.
Take Manziel (or even Bortles or Bridgewater) & build for the future ~ whether Jerry publicly admits or not, Dallas is in a rebuilding phase.

Agreed. If he is there at 16 (unlikely) he should be Dallas' pick.

Honestly- if he was there at 16 and Our Dallas Cowboys were to pick him:

I'm not going to freak out.
There's the rest of the draft and it's infinite possibilities to ponder and Maybe- Just Maybe...

JBF can be the guy some posters think he can be.
I won't complain...

It would clearly be a move for the future not for 2014 or maybe even 2015, so IMO it would do a lot of good.
Saying that, there's no way it will happen.

See, that is the whole problem. If you are looking for a replacement, you don't go and give your starter a fresh new extension with over $50 million guaranteed. Like Mickey has said on Talking Cowboys, you cannot get rid of Romo until at least another 3 seasons. The reason is the cap penalty you would incur by trading or releasing him.

I just don't get the logic in drafting a first round QB and letting him sit 3 of the 4 years on his rookie contract.

He Manziel fell to 16, that'd tell you that the league doesn't think he's an NFL caliber QB. Too many teams of great need would have to pass him by.

Personally, I think Mettenberger, Murray, Carr, Savage, and others might be every bit as good, if not better than the big three up top.

Yeah, when Jerry gave that 100 mil to Romo (which is not really 100 mill but posters like to use that figure), he knew Romo would get injured in the last game of the season. smh
