Washington and Everett was pretty good in the SB days.

But Miami had a duo back in the day who were pretty special, Jake Scott and Dick Anderson. Most super bowl winning teams have a pretty good tandem at safety.

It's a good statistic but it's a phantom statistic. Players can be just as if not more effective with fewer INTs and fewer plays on the ball than the stat lines would let you believe.

I don't know how long Thomas and Chancellor have played together. I don't think they are the best safety duo ever. If the put together several years of good play, then they may end up getting there.

I don't play FF or Madden. I remember Marion very well. Solid player. He was a good, sure tackler. He had three straight seasons(2 with Dallas and then his first in Miami) where he didn't intercept a pass. I get that he was effective in other areas, but you want your safety to at least pick off a few passes every now and then. In fact, he ended up doing that the rest of his career after that three year stretch and it helped him to finally start making pro-bowl appearances. It just didn't happen with while he was Dallas. His best years were in Miami, so I don't see him and Woody as being the best tandem.

I think Roy was always a liability in coverage. They just didn't make him cover.

They only played together as starters one season in 1992. Everett was only around 2 years in Dallas. Woody took over for Washington in 1993.

james washington was sneaky good.... Hard Hittin Thomas was a good pick up....he helped give our defense an attitude.

Don't forget 70 and 71 with Green and Renfro. In 72 we had Green with Harris and Waters as the FS. I strongly believe Adderley played some safety at times. Green and Renfro may have been our best two safeties although all the others mentioned are deserving.

Yes totally different. Witten is reliable go to receiver for Romo and gets open consistently against safeties. Gates is a jumpball specialist. Both have their strengths. I would take Witten especially on 3rd down situations. For someone that is supposedly slowing down still gets open consistently and is Romo's favorite target when all else fails.

All true but Gates presents more challenges to a defense like Seattle's more than Witten.

True as well. However, Dallas as a team presents more challenges. They'll have to leave Witten one on one to compensate for Murray and Bryant. Thats when Witten thrives the most is when he has single coverage on any Safety.

way too early to say this, let them play together for a couple more seasons before we put them on an "all-time" list, everyone is always in a rush to call someone one of the greatest ever after a short period of time.

Lott's last season with the 49ers was 1990. Hanks was drafted in 1991

Hicks was the Free Safety that Ronnie Lott replaced in 1985. During Hick's time Lott was a corner.

Unbelievably most of the strong safeties that played along side Lott (during his time as FS from `85 to `94) were not exactly household names:

Carlton Williamson: `85-`86 (32 starts)
Jeff Fuller: `87-`88 (30 starts)
Chet Brooks: `89-`90 (24 starts)
Dave Waymer: `90 (8 starts)
Eddie Anderson: `91-`92 (32 starts) w/Raiders
Brian Washington: `93-`94 (31 starts) w/Jets

...Ronnie was just so go he makes any safety combo look that much better.
