not really dude. theres talent in later rounds for qb, the team is on track and needs help early for defense. if you drafted a guy in the 1st next year, you going to sit him behind you 100 million dollar qb? the defense needs help. BAD. if you got a strong defense you can give the ball back to your offense.

for me, I would think serious about cutting Weeden and if Romo goes down again to at least see if Vaughn has something. Weeden has a strong arm but no touch and worst he stares down receivers.

either way you build the trenches first.

That line of thinking is how the team ends up with Weeden's in the first place. Romo is having an injury riddled season and will be 35 this upcoming season. It is stupid to think about drafting his successor? What good is a pass rush with no one @ QB? Another great defender would have impacted today? Who in the league are good to great starters post round 1? Romo, Brees, and Brady. Wilson maybe. You can't hope to get lucky by taking one later as if that is somehow a smarter move.

So Weeden's lack of talent has nothing to do with the results? And any quarterback except Tony will have the same results?

Not exactly. But, I wouldn't guarantee the same results if the QB isn't some guy that should operating the ferris wheel at the county fair either.

I actually think there is a silver lining in all of this. It should get thru Jerry's thick head that Romo isn't going to play until he's 38, much less 40. And that Weeden clearly isn't the answer either. So this team needs to draft a QB either in round 1 or round 2 next year. At least that would be the smart plan.

Maybe the next cowboy QB won't be in a draft but maybe in a trade like how Denver got Manning. Don't know who that person would be but just thinking outside the box.

You can talk all you want about building the trenches and that's fine and correct. But in today's NFL, if you do not have a QB that can play you have NO chance to win. That's just the way it is. If you do not agree with this then I don't know what sport you have been watching. Romo is 34 so they better get cooking on finding his successor and quickly. He ain't getting any younger and his back will be an issue for the rest of his career. In the short term Jerry did an awful job solving the Orton problem. Weeden ain't the answer. So I'm sure not confident in Jerry & Son to find a long term solution either.

I think Romo is outstanding, but no, this is not a true preview.
Brandon Weeden does not "represent"

Face it, Orton screwed us royally in the short term.

Cowboys didn't have to release Orton did they? I suspect he would have eventually reported.

Weeden was horrible everywhere he's been. I remember reading practice tweets which resulted in Weeden throwing INTs. In preseason, he looked like crap. His ball placement wasn't there.

How they did not see this is beyond me.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but maybe draft a QB every year in the 4th to 5th round like Greenbay did ?
Then let then sit and learn the game ?
It worked for them, but then we drafted Q and McGee so maybe we are not good at spotting diamonds in the rough ?

This is one of those threads where we pretend we've had more resources available to build this team than we've actually had. I'll just say I'm ok with how the decisions have been made, and agree that it's obviously time to draft and develop a new QB with some significant resources. But we knew that back before the decision was made to release Orton, anyway.

Only thing that was confirmed after this game is this team would be stupid not to go QB in round 1 of next year's draft. Weeden reminded me of Hutchinson and the throwing mud against the wall mentality displayed after Aikman was released. Dumpster diving sounds right.

Round 1 quarterbacks almost never pan out.

I'm going to whip up a manifesto on how we screwed up by not trading up for Andrew Luck.

Don't forget about Dustin Vaughan being the sure fire QB of the future after 1 training camp.

I love how everyone cries about all of the first round busts while conveniently forgetting all of the first round studs.

"Oh so and so was a bust, and so and so was also a first round bust, so we shouldn't do anything."

In other words paralysis by over analysis, or basically, the same mindset that this F.O. has employed since forever.

If it was up to some of you, we'd never take a crack at drafting a QB.

I prefer to be more proactive.

Interesting stat:

Weeden's cumulative QB rating before joining the Cowboys: 71.8 His QB rating for the Cowboys 71.7.

For those like myself who miss Kyle Orton (I know there aren't many), his QB rating in Buffalo is 104.0, 9 TD 3 Interceptions.

We got a preview of life without Romo back in 08 when Brad Johnson started 3 games when he was injured. Today was like previewing a sequel to the same bad movie with Weeden.
