So basically, the Patriots in the second half, when they couldn't get anything going on offense anymore, started lining up their offense very close to the clock expired and right before that happened, their WR would be lining up and then say the ref he was ineligible... Because of this, the Ravens had no real idea, couldn't get lined up properly and had to cover the Receiver who was then eligible, sitting on the line...

Harbaugh started yelling at the refs and actually walked on the field to get their attention, and was penalized more yardage and the Pats ended up scoring very easily..

And the NFL officially banned it this off-season, though this ban doesn't actually address the real issue with it, which was the NFL didn't properly convey the ineligible receivers nor afforded the Ravens to deal adequately with any substitutions..

The irony of this whole matter is that the NFL said to the Seahawks before the SB, they would make every effort to convey who is ineligible to the defense.. People didn't catch on that this was pretty much an implicit admittance that they were doing an adequate job. And the week prior, the NFL admitted they botched a TD during the Colts-Patriots game when the Pats scored using an ineligible receiver...

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...refs-signaling-patriots-ineligible-receivers/

Basically, a lot of their success in the play-offs was 'play calling' not necessarily Brady..

www.bostonherald.com/sports/patriots_nfl/the_blitz/2015/01/bill_vinovich_dean_blandino_not_on_same_page_with_ineligible

Vinovich essentially said to a ravens defender "do not cover 34", not that he was ineligible.. That's how botched it was..
Wow. That is unreal. I hate the Patriots so much. I don't respect their Super Bowl wins at all. They and the Stealers are the same to me.

Thank you for explaining that.

Thank you for explaining that.

A lot of people tried to pass this off as genius, but failed to mention the points that:

1. The declaration of ineligibility happened right when they lined up, not allowing proper substitution by the defense according to the spirit of the rules even if they knew what was going on

2. The ref did not adequately convey this to the defense, the only reported words to one player "Do not cover 34" as if the Ravens can understand that or that it can be conveyed to other defenders if it was said to just one defender

3. The NFL admitted they botched a TD in the Colts-Patriots game, when it was effectively a blow out and had no repercussions on the final score, but made no mention of there ridiculous "do not cover 34" in the Ravens game which one could legitimately argue ruined the Ravens victory.

4. The NFL said they would address the issue for the SB, implicitly affirming it was an issue for the defense. It has nothing to do with fair play, but no ability for a team to actually adjust at all

5. The NFL 'outlawed' it without addressing their botching of it by conveying the ineligibility properly to the Ravens...

Not true. Most people in here are only accepting certain parts of the Wells Report.
You obviously don't have the first clue what is in there. The Wells Report established guilt but nowhere in that report does it say anything about the severity of the crime or does it recommend punishment.

So whether someone says they deserve a $5 fine or a lifetime ban has nothing to do with the Wells Report.
The Wells report was just there to get facts in the case - not pass judgement.
If you knew why they did it then you would not have posted this statement.

The NFL Game Operations Manual recommends a fine of $25,000 for this particular type of equipment violation. When they Vikings got caught breaking the same rule, they got a letter of warning.

So yeah, that's the NFL equivalent of a speeding ticket.
This was not some random thing. Hello.... Brady, if you read the report, asked the ball guy to make sure the balls were inflated to the low side.
McNally was not on board till the shoes and autographed footballs showed up from ahhh. ahhhh. ahhh.... Oh yes. Brady.
They made sure they were under inflated per Tom.
Integrity of the game.
Guess you do not have enough to admit collusion on this. Not just a random mistake on the Patriots part one time.
But a conspiracy set in motion by Brady.
Integrity of the game.
Did you never hear about the phrase "Cheaters never prosper..." ??????
I could go into a Ted Kennedy segway here on a certain driving incident... But will forgo that.

I'm reading this discussion and there is one thing I would like to say. To those of you that are worried that Brady's punishment will only be for the games until he can come play the Cowboys I say...I want that fool available when the Pats play the Cowboys!

I think this defense is going to deflate Brady's balls! And, I actually think the rest of the NFL teams on the Pats schedule want a piece of that punk and his hoodie wearing, monotone speaking, camera spying coach of his!

I want Brady to come to Texas, or hell, the Cowboys go to them...who cares? I want him playing in the game against the Cowboys so that there are no excuses.

And for you other posters that are so worried that the Big Bad Brady will be available for the Cowboys game...man up! Brady is not all that. When the Pats have to break out a camera, use trick plays at the last second, deflate footballs and who the hell knows what else...Brady...come on down!

Let me get this straight. It's a $25,000 fine ?

[/sarcasm]

Jeez. Saying the same thing over and over does not dismiss the fact that the Patriots and Brady are known cheaters.

Wasn’t mentioned today, but Wells Report notes Patriots were warned in '04 after non-approved practice balls ended up in win over Jets.

Practice ? We talking about practice ?

Seriously though, it has been a trend with that organization and I think the hammer should have come down harder.
I am not jealous of the Pats or their fans, I don't envy them. They just disgust me. Smug attitudes and generally just *******s.

Their fans are as bad as Skins fans. And yes they are smug and arrogant.

Goodell and the owners have turned the NFL into a soap opera and have abandoned their responsibility to the game. The proper response to this would have just been to close the inane and outdated loopholes that even allow this and have the league maintain all footballs and keep them from the players. But no, guess they need the NFLN viewers foaming over the hated Patriots being punished.
