lol. The article's author cracks on the chinese businessman getting the design wrong:
Mashable broke the story earlier this week, reporting that the office block is modeled after the fan-favorite USS Enterprise. However, Star Trek nerds across the internet were quick to point out that they their conclusion was highly illogical. The building obviously looks way more like the less popular USS Voyager. We'll let Popular Mechanics explain why: The building's star drive section is too short to truly conform to either design. (And it's clearly not the ship of the original series, nor the Enterprise-A of the movies.) But the angular, elongated Enterprise-E nacelles are absent in the NetDragon building, replaced with Voyager-like warp nacelles.

His article includes a pic of the "fan favorite" USS Enterprise:

Fail.

That's the Enterprise alright. It's just that the pic is neither the "fan favorite" USS Enterprise nor is it the NCC 1701, NCC 1701A or NCC 1701E he mentions. It's the NX-01. The NX is less popular than the NCC 74656, which ISN'T any of the Constitution (most famous), Galaxy, Excelsior, or Sovereign class designs either.

Yeah, the building's design does favor the Intrepid class Voyager starship more. He should pat himself on the back for getting that right.

Ship design-wise, Voyager is my favorite, but Enterprise is Enterprise. Not to mention, I've actually been aboard the USS Enterprise (CV-6). (benefit of being a Navy brat)
Intrepid class is very sleek. One of the best views of the ship is in the opening credits of the show as it flies through the edge of a nebula. It's not unlike a B2 piercing cloud cover or a shark swimming just below the ocean's surface.

Cool stuff!

A friend of mine's son was a plank owner on the first Arleigh Burke. He had some great pictures -- and stories.

That's sweet! That's like a badge of honor. I'm not a tattoo guy, but I would probably tattoo that status. Not only is the Arleigh Burke a destroyer, but first of it's class no less too. :) (Arleigh Burke class destroyer) Good stuff Argle!

I'd probably consider the tattoo too, in that instance. And he ended up as the 'radar chief', which was big, as the radar setup on these destroyers were apparently a sea change in operation.

A few years ago, I was visiting at another friend's stepdad's house. Turned out he was a plank owner on the Battleship Missouri. Great old gentleman. We got him talking, and spent an entire evening listening to his stories of WWII etc. Funny tales, terrifying tales. The Missouri was the target of a number of Kamikaze attacks, including a big one that was never officially reported due to internal Navy politics.

As an Army brat, I don't get all the deep nuances of the Navy experience, but as a military brat, you still can understand some of the depths of it. But no Wesley Crusher stuff. Nope.

This thread is out of this world. :muttley:

The business man had the nuts and vision to build something very cool looking, then you have the dorks and nerds coming out of the woodwork to try and critique and downplay his work. Typical of those who have nothing but a bunch of useless, fake, sci-fi knowledge.
