If that's the case, I would use the first round tender. Not only to prevent a team from pilfering him, but to pay a quality player who - to date - has been grossly underpaid.

Not that it is likely to happen in the business world of the NFL, but something I would like to see.

It's a coin flip as to which one will be on the team longer. Obviously, the progress of Collins, Green and possibly Weems could impact those decisions.

I don't see it as s coin flip. Free is starting to decline. Leary has not had any problems with his knee. Unless something changes, I don't think there is any reason why should be looked at as a temporary solution at LG. it seems like he has played very well and has remained healthy. I hope he remains a Cowboy for years to come. I don't think Free is capable of that.

Do I need to explain the difference between an Unrestricted Free Agent and a Restricted Free Agent?

why is he restricted when after this season he would have 4 years experience? I get that several outlets have said he will be restricted and he was an EFA last year, but I don't get why. Did 2012 not count? I know he was released at some point, but I always assumed it would still count

An accured season is 6 games on active game day roster.... He spent 2012 on PS until late in season

Not that I know of, he just mentioned he didn't think he had quick enough feet. Saw him as a guard not as a tackle, sorry if it doesn't fit your narrative

The 3rd round pick we drafted this year is also a tackle. Leary's contract is up this year. Those are 6 reasons why it all makes sense for Collins to replace Leary and not Free.
