The problem isn't that Dez isn't worth big money, it's how big. They shelled out for Romo and for Tyron and other players. We might get a Dez that is still hyper productive over the next 2-3 years, but statistically after that we should expect a decline to begin. We do not want to be paying him CJ money at all, but much less in 3 years. There will be other big contracts to come up in that time frame, and then people will be complaining about letting x player walk if we just handed a blank check to Dez, and we could just point to the CJ deal they begged for.

Which is a FANTASTIC reason to franchise him.

How'd you like to be $40 million in the hole for a receiver that can't play anymore?

Dez has had multiple injuries, and the one that is most troubling is his recurring back spasms. Receivers can't play with those, and they tend to NEVER get better.

I am going to bet he dressed for games...when his back was screaming to rest...and if he plays for the franchise tag...he might listen to his back...as opposed to gutting it out

Yep. hisname was Javon Walker. and he was one of the best young WR's in the NFL. once he tore that knee up, he never got any big money. a few years later he was out of the league. Dez has to look after himself and his family.

the Jones family also have to look after their family. paying more then you are comfortable with to an athlete that needed a babysitter and left the field of play because he can't control his emotions is not a good way to protect your family.

what is so bad is that with the players they had last year and the moves they made this offseason put them in a place tobe in contention for deep play off run with the loss of murry and if dez holds out then its another wasted year and romo don't have many left. because without dez Bryant they are not making the playoffs and everyone knows that.

Im not arguing to sign this guy to a CJ contract, im saying Stephen has to loosen up a bit and get this deal done. Thats all. Im not saying lets screw our cap for the next 10 years, im saying Jerry has to come in and get it done. Personally im not even worried about hurting ourselves later on because the cap keeps going up anyways. I dont know why that hasnt been discussed.

NFL channel said the Dez Bryant status to be discussed via a live broadcast. (Eastern)

Maybe its the announcement and they have been able to keep it under raps this long? Doubtful but im hopeful for sure

and if he tears an acl, how much money is that going to cost him? a lot more than he would be giving up by not playing
Absolutely he could get a debilitating injury week 1.

That's all the more reason why Dallas shouldn't cave into his demands and give him a contract that will break the bank when they don't have to.

I agree, and that's why he will be here week 1 (even if there is no deal). Oh sure, he will extend his summer vacation a couple weeks and miss most of August, but holding out into the season is a lose-lose scenario.

Because as the cap increases there will be more players posturing for bigger slices of the pie, and backing down for Dez will just make it harder to take a hard stance the next time. It's not like other players are going to be looking for deals based on the old cap. It's tough to swallow this with guys like Demarco and Dez but it was never going to be easy to demonstrate prudence after years of stupid contracts. Gotta rip that bandaid.

I doubt the 2 sides are even talking. If they were, we would have heard something to that effect by now. Right now, all I hear are crickets and we are 24 hours away from the deadline.

He got traded the following season to Denver who gave him a at the time big contract of 5 years 40 million with 15 million signing bonus, to put it in prospective Torry Holt one of the premire recivers of the time signed signed a seven year contract worth 42 million with 11 million signing bonus in 2003

Then he went to the Raiders in 2008 and signed a six year 55 million dollar contract that included 16 million signing bonus

Pretty sure Javon Walker did ok lol

Probably the NFL Network trying to get people excited over nothing.

I hope the fans get to find out what the sticking points are over the contract. I'm starting to worry that Stephen Jones is going to chase away all the talent over his desire to have the lowest salary in the league.

All good. but if it bothers the Jones family so much, trade him. move on from him. how about that?
