Saints just put Anthony Spencer on IR after 1 preseason game. Another shrewd move by the "under new management" Cowboys organization.

Guy has got to have the best pay per game played of anybody ever. Last two years with the Cowboys he made 10+ million a year for a total of 22 tackles and a half a sack.

Stop.

Spencer was a good player for us. He ruined his knee. That's nothing to celebrate

It's possible to be pleased that the team made the right decision by moving on and feel bad for the guy's knee problem. I didn't think OP sounded particularly celebratory about Spencer's injury, and he's right, it was the right decision.

The front office made a great decision in not continuing to pay for spencer given his as you put it ruined knee. That is something to celebrate. THey refused to make a long term commimtent to him, and in the end saved probably more money then they lost in franchising him in hopes that he would return to form. I'm gonna celebrate all day on that decision.

Congratulating us for not bringing a guy back for basically the vet minimum? Wow. Shrewd.

Yes, because the FO knew he was going to mess that knee up.

Talk about hindsight bias.

I loved Anthony Spencer. He made good money from the tag, but I feel bad for the guy that he never got his big deal, one that he arguably deserved if it wasn't for bad timing with injuries. Wish him the best, hope this isn't it for him.

Anthony Spencer was a good player for us for a long time. He hurt his knee. The franchise tag, for its value, made sense at the time. We hoped that he would overcome that and earn an extension, but he didn't, and we moved on.

The front office is doing a really good job of managing personnel and the cap. I hope Spencer recovers and is able to have a good career - whether it be with football or outside of football.

Cowboys have done a good job managing team needs vs salary with veteran players (especially after the Jay Ratliff -Miles Austin fiasco)

Ware, Spencer, Austin, Bruce Carter, Jason Hatcher, Terrance Newman and others

I always like Anthony Spencer he was a good player for us, he made some money which is good, so maybe now he gets out and moves on with his life.

Agreed. He did what he was paid (as determined by the Cowboys) to do when healthy. I wish him well.

Shrewd?

Easily the most obvious move the team has made in years.

Almost like congratulating them because they didn't trade Dez for a ham sandwich immediately after signing him.

Congrats, I guess. No one was expecting any other outcome.

I liked Spencer and hoped he did well this year so it would help us get a better comp pick.

Now we might lose one. Nothing to celebrate.

Did we never collect on our compensation pick for Spencer?

P.S., I thought he was VASTLY overrated.

He only left this off-season. The formula is secretive but him playing well for the Saints would have helped.

It's a combination of both... JJ over paid for his services and he got paid to do nothing. That is where I will leave it. I know I made comments about the guy but overall he was heck of a lb for us.
