First of all - We all knew that Tony Romo was the heart and soul of this team. Not only that, but in the first two games, not only did we lose him, but we lost DEZ.

Now, did you all expect some sort of miracle for us to be able to make the playoffs after all of this happening? In all honesty, I think we did better than we actually should have, considering we were close to winning 5 out of the 6 games we've lost this season by 7 points or less, if the defense wouldn't have collapsed in on itself in the final 3 minutes of the 4th quarter as it always does.

For everyone worried about the offense... get over yourselves. Sure, there are a few issues at receiver, but once Dez comes back solid, and ASSUMING, yes, assuming... Tony can stay healthy next year, he will return to form, as will Williams, and Beasley will be beasting the slot as always. Our line will continue to flourish, and McFadden will have the same kind of year next year, and we will have solved the backup RB option by then.

Don't draft a QB this year, give Tony one more, see if we can mold Moore into a solid backup, and then go for one next year.

What needs to be addressed, is this DEFENSE. My god. Of all things. Have you all been watching the same team I have for the last 8 years, or is it not blatantly obvious this has been the main problem and reason we haven't had the success we're supposed to have been having?

Every year, our offense keeps us in the game - And every year, the defense blows 80% of these games we could have easily won, by simply collapsing in on itself.

Once this is somehow addressed, we will be fine. It was the same defense last year, and hell, we were 12-4 and were robbed of the NFC Championship game.

We will be fine, people. Allow Tony and Dez to come back and do what they do, let us establish a more solidified running game behind our monstrous line, let the defense come up with a few more turnovers, and we'll be back in contention just as we were last year.... Have some faith!

We go 10-6 next year in a tight race in the East, and become division champs in a tie-breaker to the Giants and Sheagles.

Merry Christmas

If the Cowboys don't draft a QB this year, I hope they trade back in the first and pick up a first next year to give us some ammo to move up for one.

We aren't going to get lucky with an Aaron Rodgers falling to us in the mid 20's like the Pack did. It's something that will need to be addressed in the next 2 drafts, and is going to require a top 5 pick, IMO.

Also, we didn't lose games this year because we were one player away. There isn't one player in the upcoming draft that will put this team over the hump next year. That being said, if there is a QB that this organization thinks they can develop into a franchise QB, why would you pass up on him to draft a CB, DE, or whatever?

That one pick isn't going to make or break the team for the 2016 season. However, it could make or break us in the future if we pass up on a guy that ends up succeeding in the NFL. This is why I think that if there is a QB at any of our picks, especially first, that we think we can develop into a franchise QB, we need to take him. Period.

Well said. But we will continue to get is crap posted about Garrett. That is pretty sad. Will drive people away, but that is what those posters want. A forum of misery posters. \rant

I do disagree on the QB. We need to draft Romo's replacement. Let him learn under one of the best.
The defesne has let us down many times and still does, they can't finish a game. But this year much of it had to do with the offense not scoring points, not getting TD's when they had the opportunity. They turned the ball over or took FG's. And that was due mostly to Tony and Dez being out.

People will not see this is the same team that went 12-4 last year. They will only think we suck because of the injury plagued season. The backup QB issue is on the FO. But I would bet most teams would be in the same situation. Yes teams have won with backups, but other factors are involved just as well.

I agree with some of this and yet, not all

* Defense...if you are asking the defense to stay fresh for4 quarters when the offense keeps giving the ball back, then you are asking for o much...any defense will wilt late in a game if thy are consistently on the field
* Injuries - yup, the team has/had more than their fair share...but, SERIOUS lack of preparedness by the back-up QB's and a MORE serious lack of a backbone by the coaching staff led to so many 3&outs and thus, caused the defense to be winded late in game - you can't tell me that we couldn't have won ONE of the close games? coaching alone should get you ONE of them;
* Back-up QB - I can't tell if Weeden and Cassel just suck royally or is the team's lack of 2nd half production in games a result of coaching - but, in comes Moore against the Jets and the team is worth watching on offense for a little while - I wasn't crazy upset that Moore threw picks because he is green; I liked that he ran an offense

IMO, the coaching hamstrung the extremely average QB's since Tony went down; that made the offense lack-luster at best an pathetic at worst; this team will only get better if the team can go injury free AND they get a new HC and staff - would love Sean Peyton, but if not him, get someone with fire - even Jon Gruden would get me excited to watch the team; move JG up in the FO (I like guy, just not as a coach)

IMO, the defense is much more likely to stiffen if the offense is sustaining drives....that wasn't happening.

Agree, and we need to address it this draft if we get the chance. As it may not be there next year, or the next 5 years.
Unless a player that is taken over a QB is a sure fire IMPACT day starter, take the QB. And by impact player, a defensive terminator type player, like JJ Watt's year last year. MVP type production.

I think people are freaking out because losing Romo showed how inept our coaching staff is. Romo probably has 2 injury filled seasons left, so not drafting a qb this upcoming draft would be a huge mistake.

Here we go with the Garrett stuff again. He IS NOT the reason. Can we get one thread, just one thread of football talk without the Garrett bashing same old crap.

Yeah. It's always something else other than Garrett. Injuries, the defense (even though the defense some years ago was much worse), the weather, a player, not having the RKG, a black hole in another part of the galaxy exerting too much gravitational force, etc.

Lol for real, never seen a coach get this many. You coukd literally use those excuses for every coach in the league

He IS the reason. 1 winning season out of 5 is not good.

8-8 is not a losing season either.
And injuries are a huge part of it, and you both know it.

Really good football stuff, with the galaxy gravitational part. F for effort there pal.

I would argue the opposite, actually. The defense has been the reason we are in a lot of these games. Look at the most recent game - 4 INTs and we were still somehow in a position to win the game. Are there issues on the defense? Of course. But this year, piss poor QB play = anemic offense.

We're averaging 17.6 PPG this year, vs 28.4 last year. That's an 11 point swing year over year.

The offense ranks near the bottom in 3rd down conversions and # of plays run. Head scratcher is we're actually averaging 31minutes of possession.

I would critique the defense for not creating turn overs, but the caving is probably a result of an offense that can't sustain drives, ESPECIALLY at key junctures of the game.

There are too many ignorant posters here who blame JG. You lose your #1 QB, WR, DE, CB yet it's the coaches fault. GM maybe but it's not the coaching. Yet ignorance rules here. SMH

Don't re-write the history of this season. Yes, Dez went down and yes, Romo went down. But they were both expected back and all we needed were a couple of games to stay in the hunt in what is a horrifically bad NFC East. That is not a miracle in the making. Not even close. We also expected RoMac and Hardy back after their suspensions.

A real miracle would have been to make the playoffs if Romo or Dez were knocked out for the season. Once Romo came back, were were already in a deep hole and had it not been for playing in the NFC East, the season would have been lost already. We didn't need a miracle. We needed a HC to coach the team that he supposedly built over the last several years that had us accepting (and making excuses for) some mediocre .500 football with a franchise QB for multiple years.

What needs to be addressed, is this DEFENSE. My god. Of all things. Have you all been watching the same team I have for the last 8 years, or is it not blatantly obvious this has been the main problem and reason we haven't had the success we're supposed to have been having?

I've been watching the same team but obviously you haven't. We traded up for Claiborne and Lawrence. We signed Carr to a big money contract and extended Scandrick and Crawford. We brought in Hardy and RoMac. That's 7 positions out of 11 off the top of my head but I know there have been others.

In all honesty, I think we did better than we actually should have

Um....we're 4 and 10 and won 1 game out of 10 with our back-up QB and you think we did better than we should have? Put the pipe down.....better yet, pass it around because that's some potent stuff you're smoking.

Merry Christmas

I never said anything about his records, but the person who did said one winning season in five. He's absolutely correct. Also, he was only 8-8 because Romo helped overcome his deficiencies on offense. The team also had one of the worst defenses in the league in one of those years. It's become more apparent that he offers little to nothing except being a head clapper and cheerleader.

Just like the gravitational force of a black hole offers nothing towards football. Hence the sarcasm.
