I fail to see how that suggests the offense, as a whole, is still elite.

It does nothing to break down our sad little option routes and overall poor offensive pass design.

Looks like we have a pretty good OL though. Whoa. That was unexpected news.

I meant to say "offensive line" in the thread title. And many people have been criticizing the o-line, too, and this article basically absolves them of blame.

McFadden is 5th in the NFL in rushing. So yeah, the oline is pretty good.

Very good. Very, very good, even. It's the least of our worries. I suppose we need Chaz Green to pan out and take Free's job but this is on the backburner right now. This offseason for me is all about finding a new set of triplets.

And hopefully replacing Jason Witten.

~holy water splash in the face~

I may have talked out of turn.

They have not been the road grading "anyone can run behind them" line this year. And I think they need better coaching that Pollack can provide, but they are not the problem..

Most of the criticism is because people actually bought the idea that they would just line up and a quart of blood would just drop out of the bodies of the defense.

he 2015 season is now a failure of epic proportions for the Dallas Cowboys. With one last game to go, they have locked themselves into a top eight pick and could go as high as second, currently standing fourth in the draft order. A spot near the start of the draft is certainly valuable, especially in a draft class that is not seen as particularly deep this year, but it is far from what fans and the team itself were anticipating going into this season.

One of the things that led to optimism before things ran so quickly off the rails was the vaunted offensive line. That group was seen as a key element in the often dominating offensive performance the Cowboys displayed in 2014. With the league's leasing rusher, by a wide margin, and a generally well-protected Tony Romo, Dallas scored a lot of points. That went away almost completely. Obviously the injuries to Romo and Dez Bryant played major roles, but the struggles on third and short and in the red zone seemed to indicate much more was wrong. Add in the league leading number of false starts, and it is not surprising that many began to question whether the group, which now has four first-round caliber starters, was in fact overrated...

Most of that thought was based on having a healthy Romo and Dez that creates space for the run game to work. And they are getting McFadden (who might have broken the least amount of tackles of any RB in the league this year) to 1000 yards after only having 129 yards the first 5 or so games.

So I actually don't think the front offices thinking was far off.

Of course we need to do hell of a lot better if we're going to compete with Arizona and Carolina. But Arizona is getting production from a 4th rd RB and were doing better with an out of work Chris Johnson. Which further supports the front office's decision not to throw big money at Murray.

As others have mentioned previously, if McFadden is top 5 than you must be doing something right. They have also allowed the least amount of pressures, so there is that. However, they lead the league in false starts and have been terrible on third and short situations, as well as goal line situations.

The good news is that they have time to improve as they are all really young. I do think they missed Callahan though. I also think that Tony gets them out of a lot of situations and puts them in situations that allows them to use their strengths. They didn't have that this year.

I can't believe that this offense would be labeled as elite after watching this season. I don't understand how anybody can come to that conclusion at all. I can't comment my true feelings on the subject because it would be offend to say the least. The oline is good, but they even took a step back this year.

I'll echo that sentiment - McFadden sitting at 5th in the league in rushing says it all. Projecting McFadden for this kind of production as the starter in week one would put him at 1300 yards and 3rd in the league. Easily the best season of his entire career. All without a quarterback or #1 receiver to speak of.

I don't think over rated..

just under supported.

How many times have we been oversold by Jerrah saying things like..

" 500 coaches could win with this team.."

or

"our OL is so good we can win without Murray"

We have to stop listening to our owner and actually listen to the critics around the league.

Tough stuff to do but reality bites.

We have to separate the owner speak from the truth.

Not easy after so many years of believing the team's propaganda.

Anybody who doesn't think McFadden is something special has to agree with this.

Not that it discounts the blind squirrel/acorn factor, of course. ;)
