Cooley's opinion: RG3 is going to Dallas

If we don't make him play Tony Romo style of football than he might be ok.

If we use our zone run scheme and do playaction and bootlegs off of it then he could be extremely effective here.

I just think Garrett is too stubborn to change anything. If Romo goes down I imagine he'd coach Rg3 the same way he did the 3 guys we had this year.

If they aren't willing to let him play to his skill set I see no point. I agree they are too stubborn to adjust to a particular players strength and deviate from what it is they do.

The only opinion that matters is Jones.

If Griffin is signed, Jones will back off the QB pursuit and proclaim problem solved.

You're right.

I think a young guy would still be drafted... just not at #4... and that may be a good thing.

I think it's Griffin.

The interesting question will be, will the Cowboys still take a QB at #4 IF they had Griffin on board?

There are very good points for and against.

I hope not. If I spent a pick that high on a QB, I want him to be active game day with a headset on ready to take over if Romo goes down...not an inactive 3rd stringer for possibly two seasons.

Not saying I don't want to draft a QB if that scenario happens, just not at 4.

As long as they still g QB at #4, I'd like this a lot. It would add some % likelihood to getting a franchise QB after Romo. Unfortunately, RGIII would be instead of QB at #4 I'm sure, decreasing our chance at a franchise QB IMO.

Personal estimations:

RGIII turns out to be franchise QB = 5%
Goff/Wentz/Lynch turns out to be franchise QB = 25%

Double those % that they'll turn out to be at least a good quality starter.

I'd rather have the 30% chance over the 25% or 5% chance myself. If either or, give me the 25% chance.

RG3 on the DC does not change the team for better or worse. It's a band-aid for a much larger potential problem and that is what they have available if TR goes down again for an extended period of time (which is likely) IMO.
Unless RG3 gains 30 lbs of muscle, his knee goes back to normal and he emulates the play and leadership of a guy by the name of Newton, I'm not interested.
Pick Goff or Wentz at #4 and start QB rebuild the process.

I'm not saying I disagree.

Quite honestly no matter what you the Cowboys do, it could blow up in their faces or turnout to be a winning hand.

Most of us hope this does not happen - but with the old wildcatter Jerry, I think we all know that anything is possible. I have gone back and forth on the whole QB at 4 thing. If we had a capable QB coach I would be fine with a trade down/pick up a mid-round QB to groom - but we don't. Still, I would look more at a Colt McCoy type, to sit behind Romo for a year or two. Somehow, some way I think we will take a QB somewhere in this draft. Still not sure if it will be the 4th pick however ....

That says nothing about him and Jerry talking. Take your lies elsewhere!

Yah, I am sure his daughter working for the Cowboys is coincidence. Its called connecting the dots.

They goofed up with their coaching hire.

RG3 needed someone like Gary Kubiak to coach him.

Snyder wanted Gruden and he lost RG3 because of that. He can't dink and dunk. He's not a west coast Rich Gannon type of QB.

He's a downfield thrower.

RG3 is all about the big play and if Romo is out I think a QB like him would be perfect to try and run the ball with and establish a deep pass play action game.

With our OL and the right playcalls I think he would be fantastic here strictly as a backup.

OK - that's a fair observation to put RGIII in a different environment.

...or not. They may be friends and Jerry did Briles a favor by hiring his daughter, but that doesn't mean Jerry listens to Briles like he speaks the gospel.

Sometimes there can be dots, but nothing requires that they be connected. :)

Not sure Dallas was going to take a QB at No. 4 anyway.

I don't mind Griffin. He's more worthy of the backup spot than Weeden and Cassel. I also believe that he's been humbled some by his experience in Washington, which hopefully will help him mature as a quarterback.

This better be in addition to QB at #4....................if the plan is RG3 over Wentz/Goff................wow, I would seriously question how bad we want to win.

I think it was Stephen who said the team might add a veteran and a rookie. Griffin would be the vet. The question is when does Dallas plan to acquire a rookie? I'm not sure Wentz/Goff were ever in the plan because I don't know if the Cowboys want to spend a first-round pick on the position.

This board will explode if Dallas added Griffin as the vet and Manziel as the "rookie."
