Was Jimmy Johnson one of the best head coaches in the NFL for 4-5 years? While I don't think a coach needs to be around for two decades to earn a right to be in the HoF I do think Jimmy is just short of the HoF. His career was very short. Less than 10 years. I don't think 80 regular season wins(ranked 56th all time) is enough even though he has two titles. He also ranks 57th in winning percentage. The two titles are obviously great accomplishments and the top two things on his resume, but in my opinion he is just short of being a HoFer.

Dungy is a tough one as well. At first glance I don't think he is a HoFer, either. He does rank 22nd in regular season wins and 12th in winning percentage. That is pretty high up on the list. Of the 37 coaches who coached at least 13 seasons, Dungy ranks 4th in winning percentage. He was one controversial call of getting to a Superbowl with rookie Shaun King as the QB for the Bucs. That is often forgotten. I would still lean toward no based on what my eyes saw, but the stats are in his favor.

I don't like TO at all, but I'll even admit he deserves to be in. Begrudgingly.

I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't voted in because he spent time in a Cowboys uniform. That's how some of the voters are. The HoF voting process is laughable.

The voters always do this to WR's. They have something against the position for some reason and it doesn't help that they don't like TO's personally.

With that being said, it's ridiculously sad that arguably the second greatest player to play that position isn't first ballot.

T.O. is a hall of famer.

Everybody knows it, including those who didn't cast a vote for him in my opinion.

Say what you will about his personality and his on and off the field drama. People certainly have the right to criticize all of that. That's the sole reason that I never cared much for him and it's obvious to me that that is the reason he wasn't voted in.

His play on the field, his numbers, his dominance for such a long time. Yep, he is a sure fire Hall of Famer. He should have been voted in on the first ballot

The game is watered down now by the huge offensive numbers people are putting up. I think he's a hall of famer also but like many have said, WRs and a lot of other positions wait. QBs and sack artists, not so much. He made a lot of enemies in the NFL and in the press. He will eventually get in but I'm not surprised by this.

He was pretty darn good though. The one knock I had on him at WR (antics and off the field stuff not considered) is that he had a lot of easy drops. He would just get lazy some times in his hand placement etc. However, his stats certainly prove that he was one of the greatest WRs of all time. Really no question about that.

Someone posted Rick Gosselin's article on WR yardage inflation the past couple of decades - rule changes made that happen. Someone could say Johnny Unitas wasn't that great because he did not have a 4000 or 5000 yard season like some of today's QBs. ;)

Lawrence Taylor is a pedophile. Enough votes cam in to deny T.O. an honor he does not deserve. Why you value Taylor's vote above the others is between you and god.

The only explanation I have is because he's well respected and everyone likes him other than that I don't understand it. There isn't anything about his coaching record that says Hall of Fame. Some try and give Dungy credit for the Bucs SB win in 2002 even though he got fired the year before. Despite having Peyton Manning during the prime of his career he only reached and won one SB.

You just made point. If pedophile gets in how can ANYBODY hold TO's locker room indiscretions against him.
Its hypocritical of those voting to say LT's off field issues matter not but TO's do.

I figured Ken Stabler's recent death would get him elected unfortunate it had to come to that to finally get him voted in. He should have been elected long ago he was one of the best, most clutch QBs of his era and beat some of the top QBs of his day in playoff games such as Bradshaw and Bob Griese. His 59.8 completion percentage was one of the best during his era. He won a SB and was named the league MVP in 1974.

All true and it would be very hard to argue that he was not the Greatest as well. I should have added him to the list of QBs I had not seen that could be considered the greatest as well. My error for sure and thank you for bringing this up. He's on the list!

There are also defensive innovations that he gets credited with.
