Why cant we draft a safety at 4? Oh yeah, not a (premium position). If they put Ramsey at safety we better stay in cover 2 or trail technique cover 3 because he's average n man coverage as a cb.

Brugler loves him overall but says his run all over tape as a safety is better.
I agree. AS a collegiate player he was better at Safety.
But you project these guys. Ramsay needs technique work at CB.
He is not a day 1 walk in CB1. His technique is not just bad it's poor. Yet his recovery and toughness and athleticism are off the charts good.

His turnover total is great. His pure INT total is bad. But again he has poor technique and weak hands. Things he can and will need to work on regardless the position.

Dane admits some teams will view him as a CB while others a safety. Says he is arguably the draft's best player and can play all over. He compares him to Honey Badger.

At safety you'd have to add weight and take away his gambling.
At CB he needs tons of technique work.

At either spot is a 5 star prospect because of athleticism.

I'd put him at CB but play him all over. He would excel as a slot corner because he is easily the best blitzing player in the top 50 DBs.

His overall turnover total is very good but largely due to his paly at Safety and I'm not convinced you can do much about his hands which is where he'll need to make the majority of his plays at CB.

Terence Newman was a good CB for us but never great because of his hands.

My fear is Ramsey will turn out the same at CB, good but not dynamic which is what we need.

And if Ramsey isn't going to hit the ground running at CB, then we'd be better off taking a QB and grooming him.

If a QB is there ranked worthy I agree, 100%
But you don't draft a guy for year 1 turn-around. That's fool's gold.
You draft a guy who can be dominant long-term.

Top CB don't always have top INT totals but they elevate everyone else by taking away options. Ramsay is a good hard-nosed tackle who can cover well like Mo but also can come up and knock a ball carrier silly causing fumbles.

Richard Sherman had 2 INT this year. Pat Peterson 2 INT. Talib 3, Norman 4.
Do I think Ramsay can do that? Yes. He's a better athlete than any of them except arguably Patrick Peterson.

He needs technique work regardless the scheme but he has the ability to be a lock down man CB.

Year 1 you'd prefer he be CB2 or the slot guy and play a decent amount of zone when outside until he learned how to handle various WRs.
But his upside is that of a shutdown man corner.

He's a better player at CB today than Brandon Carr. Athletically, it isn't even close.

I agree you don't take a guy based on just what he can do his first year, however the main arguments against taking a QB this year is that he won't help us win next year.

So if your going down that route then, the guy you pass up the chance to pick QB for, better be a big time contributor.

To me there isn't any player we're likely to pick at 4 who's likely to fulfil that remit.

And again I point at Newman, great athlete but with poor hands.

Turns out to be a good corner (still playing well for the Vikings) but not what you really want/need from a top pick.

Add that to Dallas inability to get many INTS from any CB it's had on the roster for a very long time, doesn't bode well for them turning Ramsey at CB into a Interception machine.

Hed have more impact at safety and we could sign a corner in free agency who already has experience.

I hope we miss JR and the same things were said about Claiborne and Newman who were high busts for us.

Not another CB please this high.

We need to focus on getting to the QB and Bosa or Jack please if we decide against the QB route.

If you can watch Ramsey safety tape and tell me he wont be elite easily i cant help you. The great corner is projection. Him being a great safety happened.

I would go QB because if Romo goes down we can't win a game.. Our team is 100% QB dependent.. A corner doesn't change that.

If Dallas decides not to go QB then Ramsey has to be the pick unless you have the cajonies to take Noah Spence in the top 5.

Imo, Ramsey is the 2nd best player in the draft.

A rookie QB isn't changing that either pal if Romo goes down

Not at corner please!

He can play the slot like Woodson use to play. To me this is Woodson 2.0. We've missed someone like him for a LONG time. This guy can do it all, play corner, play both safety spots, can tackle, can rush the passer and make plays on the ball. I love this fit for us. He and Byron would be amazing together. I am giddy if Ramsey is the pick. I just hope we pick up a starting corner in free agency.

Wow, this is such a true statement. I was jus talking to a buddy of mine about this very same thing. If we're playing cover 2, cover 3, press bail, or even off-man then sign me up. The issue is that we ask our corners to do all of it...including turning and running with WR's. Imagine the long legged Ramsey trying to man up on ODB. Ramsey would get smoked and everybody would label him a bust. This is why Broadus has him as a safety and why I would be very skeptical if we drafted him at 4.

Id still take him at 4 as a safety though. Thats turning your biggest weakness into your biggest strength. Wilcox and Church were bottom 10 safeties on pff. Byron was top 15ish I think. He may have been top 10 I just dont remember. Ramsey can be a Bob sanders/troy p in my opinion. Thats worth the 4th pick.

I agree but the problem the Cowboys will run into is that Jack is a similar prospect. Both are blue chip players, Insane athletic ability, alpha defenders, and can be the centerpiece of a defense. If it were me, the tie breaker goes to the guy that plays closer to the line of scrimmage. On top of all that, there is a great case to be made of taking a QB. Romo really is one back/clavicle injury away from retirement. The Cowboys draft this year will be fascinating.
