What makes a quarterbacks coach great? Obviously, his ability to coach QBs up. I mean more in depth though. Obviously there must be better ones than others.

Who are some of the consensus "great" QB coaches out there, NFL or college? How would you rank our very own Wade Wilson? Do you feel that this is an extremely important staff member, or not so much? Do you think the QB makes the coach, or does the coach make the QB?

I'd really like to know your opinions on the subject. It's not something I have much knowledge on, but would really like to.

Wilson has had Romo play some of his best ball and other than that he was given McGee and a bunch of UDFA. Wilson is a big unknown.

Guys that end up developing QBs typically end up as head coaches. Shanahan, Reid, etc.

I used to feel good about Wade Wilson. However, I really feel he's the one to blame for our QB situation last season. He couldn't get any of his guys prepared. I now feel like there's a reason he wasn't on Parcells's staff. Whether or not its the coach or the QB who gets the credit I think is a case by case basis. Most young Qbs need strong Qb coaches to develop early on but after a certain point they're either good enough or their not.

David Cutcliffe, the HC at Duke is one of the first coaches that comes to mind as far as great QB coaches. I have learned a lot from him and his clinics and he has a history of getting his guys ready, even if they're not NFL caliber players. Certainly Bruce Arians is another great example.

I do find it interesting that the only QB to don a Cowboys uniform since 2000 (Romo) was coached by Sean Payton and _not_ Wade Wilson.

Damning evidence in my eyes, but like I said, I'm not knowledgeable regarding QB coaching.

Jesus, you are the biggest homer in the world. Matt Cassell said when he got here, there was nobody to coach him. Wth was the "great Wade Wilson" doing?

Wade Wilson has literally done nothing in 7-8 years. Knowing we didn't have a playbook @ the Sr Bowl just goes to show...why he disappeared. He has nothing to contribute. Watched the QB drills...and you would think he would go over the finer points of the game....hand placement on the ball when wet vs a dry ball..foot work...looking off dbs.... working on cadence to draw teams offsides...but nope... Wade was last seen on an Iphone ordering pizza....Seriously...@ this point I think I could offer more. @ least I could tell a guy what Omaha..Omaha really means.

 and you get reflexively angry over sports topics. I'll take myself.

That was Kellen Moore and that was because they were trying to prep the two other unprepared QBs to play. Continue being mad that other fans aren't real enough or whatever emotional paradigm you flounder around in.

I agree. A coach can do a lot but he still needs talent to work with. Jimmy was a great HC yet his team went 1-15? why because the lacked talent. Coaches are not magic they must have players who are capable. Wade has been with Romo the majority of his career and I have continued to see Romo improve.

Couldn't agree more...I'd like to see him leave, get let go, contract expire and NOT renewed....etc. etc. blah blah blah

Anyone interested enough can look at the track record of Wade Wilson. He's never accomplished much as a player or as a coach. He was in Dallas prior to Parcells' arrival and then sent away in exile, only to find his way back after Big Bill left. Is that a strong enough indictment?

His biggest 'accomplishment' in the NFL is Rex Grossman. He was, in fact, a first round pick, so the idea that poor Wade just never had any talent to work with is a false narrative and flimsy excuse. The truth is that the guy has never been good at his job. And smart coaches know it.

We've got a good situation, overall, for a young QB. Wilson, Linehan, Garrett, and obviously Romo all played the position. Anybody we bring in will get time to develop as a pro before being expected to play.

The biggest thing QBs need are reps to see if they can develop the decision making under pressure necessary to succeed at this level. I'm not worried about mechanics, but the rest only comes out in games, and it usually takes time.

Where do you get off taking shots like that at another fan for what he posted? You ought to take a closer look at your own opinions before you try to make light of Fuzzy's. He runs circles around you when it comes to talking football.

I don't care how you take it. Fuzzy simply said it's an open question since we've had a very good QB in place for years and haven't spent resources at the position otherwise. It was a reasonable answer to the OP's question, even if you don't agree.

I find in interesting that Sean Payton gets all the credit when you consider he was out of Dallas before Romo ever became a starter and was far from a finished product. Romo continued to improve working with Wilson

Romo himself was very complimentary of David Lee. And of Parcells.

Hard to say anything on Wlison, either way.

True but how many failures did they deal with at the same time? Romo was buried as a 4th string QB all the guys ahead of him failed I did not see Payton work his so called magic on them. Why? because they lacked the talent, a coach can do so much.

Why has recent QB failed? Some were well past their prime others were late to UDFA the type of players who fail though out the NFL yet Wade is made the scape goat because these guys with little talent failed.

I would be more in agreement if we were talking a 1st rd or 2nd rd QB who struggled under Wade but fact is he has not had much talent at the QB spot to work with outside of Romo who Romo has spent the vast majority of his career with.

I agree. We've barely been in the business of developing QBs recently.
