This trade involves us getting a potential franchise QB for the next decade, not an upcoming but unproven WR?

Galloway had no potential? Ok Roy Williams then. It'll be a very bad trade. That's my prediction if we make it

I don't know if it will be worse than Galloway but it would be 2 #1s spent on a player you hope never takes a snap for 3-4 years. That's the problem with taking the QB at #4 this year. If things go like you hope for Romo, the new QB won't have played enough to justify a big second contract by the time he will be due to get one and you will have wasted huge draft capital on a 2nd string player. If a QB is in the cards this season, it should be a later pick that can be developed for a few years. The problem with that is they have no legitimate veteran backup at the moment. It would be nice to get a legit vet backup with a draft day trade as well as a promising rookie in the mid rounds. Then simply spend the rest of the draft improving the defense at all three levels and getting a WR and RB along the way.

Oh no Galloway had vast potential, didn't mean to imply that at all. Just the application of WR vs QB like apples n oranges scenarios/application just bc of that alone.

Trading two number ones for a "potential franchise player". Is a bad bad move imo.

How often are potential franchise players at QB misevaluated? Seems like too many to me to want to risk a great pick on a guy who may sit 3 years.

I think we mainly disagree with sitting for 3 years aspect. I see that as wishful thinking and the need for a future QB is more of a need than assumed due to Romo's age and injury history.

I think he means they tell Dallas their choice is Wentz so that The Cowboys know to focus on Goff as the only QB that might be available. Thus the trip to work out Goff.

I could be wrong though. That is how I took it.

We had Wentz at the Senior bowl. Worked out Lynch. Now Goff. Sorta looks like we are simply doing what we would have anyway.

Oh man, if we land Goff I'll be happier than a pig in poo

The possibility of landing the best QB in the draft at 4 is amazing

Yeah, what is so great about 'landing the best QB in this draft?' This draft has no sure-fire franchise QBs. Goff, Wentz, and Lynch need 2-3 years before they may be ready to start. All three of them have just as likely probabilities of busting as booming. I don't get the QB love by some for this year's draft. This year is a very bad year to be looking for QB help through the draft or FA. Nothing much out there.

You don't trade up, as much as I want a qb.

Taking a qb if he falls to four is playing the long game re building a team.

Trading away your future currency is not playing the long game

If tunsil is there the ravens or bears are calling you, if he isn't you take ramsey

Keep in mind this workout is before the California Spring game as well. Good opportunity to press the flesh with Cal coaches and check out future players as well. Also you get to go to California for the weekend.

No way do I give up next year #1. It will be a top five pick again if Romo gets hurt which is likely. We are a 4-12 team without him and we are not exactly adding impact players so far.

If Browns really like Ramsey/Tunsil, we can draft the player for them at #4 and swap for Goff with an additional 3rd round pick.

The Rams make a trade for the 1st overall pick and suddenly everyone has "Gold Fever"... Let's trade this and lets trade that so we can move up and get a QB... smh.

If we trade up in this draft, it will be an incredibly stupid move... sit tight at 4 or trade down... there is a ton of talent at the middle of the first that
actually suits our needs... that 2nd round pick will be huge... don't throw that away now... do not trade away next year's picks either.

I'd be pretty shocked if Dallas could trade up to 2nd overall by adding next year's 1st. That's way under value and Cleveland has a lot of leverage right now.

Anyway, even though it wouldn't be enough, I'd be really pissed if we gave up the 4th overall (or the equivalent value of two 2016 middle 1st rounders ) PLUS next year's 1st for a possible future QB. And I mean possible and where we may not even know for 2-3 years for sure.
And again, it would take more than that probably, anyway.

I do the trade as well........otherwise we will be the Rams in a couple of seasons and have to trade the farm for a QB

The Rams didn't HAVE to do anything. They moved to a star centric city and need to sell excitement to get this thing rolling. They have the strong defense and they have the stud running back and did not have a Pro Bolwl QB.
So, they swung for the fence.

There's a real chance they could've stayed put or just moved up slightly and gotten Lynch, but they want the excitement and they want a shot at who they think is best QB--at the position of their greatest immediate short and long term need.

So different in so many way than Dallas' situation.

I don't think just next year's first rounder is under value to move from 2 to 4. Now if the Eagles or 49er's only offered next year's first than I agree cause the Browns would be moving all the way down to 7 or 8.
