Love: Each week during the season, there is a game that serves as a cathartic release. I love the history of this team, the character of past/present players/staffers like Don Perkins, Roger Staubach, Pettis Norman, Charlie Waters, Troy Aikman, Daryl Johnston, Darren Woodson, Tony Romo and Jason Witten, and the hope that one day, it will once again be as great as it was when I was a kid.

Loathe: The lack of football philosophy from the owner's booth that serves to strangle this football team and prevent anything from being built correctly. Fans that can't handle a dissenting or different opinion (for both homers and realists).

Love that the overwhelming majority of the team/roster is made up of players that began their career as a Dallas Cowboy.

Loathe the fact that we don't run more passing plays that incorporate a pump fake.

A lot of people here sure seem to loathe Cowboy's fans yet come to read and post on a forum full of ...Cowboy's fans? So many masochists here.

I'm sure he has picked up somethings, but to me you don't learn on the job as being the top guy or the 2nd in charge. Most good GM's grow up through the ranks. He and Jerry did not do that and the results speak for themselves. This team has done nothing that comes close to getting to a Super Bowl in 20 years and counting. That is all on their watch and their decisions.

If he were not the owner's kid, do you think he would be a GM or a high ranking front office person today? I do not.
This is kind of flawed way of thinking. Whether you think Stephen is qualified or not, was he supposed to turn down the opportunity? Many positions in many professions are not earned 100% merit based.

Love-The Franchise and its History. The logo, the popularity, the legendary players/coaches.

Loathe-During the Romo era, not being a perennial playoff team. The Patriots, Packers, Steelers, Bengals, Seahawks, and Broncos are almost always in the playoffs. Being a fan of a team knowing they will make the playoffs is much less stressful :banghead:

Love the organization and history. Something about the blue and silver with that star. Loved it as a kid, still loving it almost 40 years as a fan. What kid didn't want to be Staubach, Dorsett, Aikman, Emmitt as kids?

I hate being a mediocre team over the last 20 years and our inability to consistently improve as a team. I Really Hate the fact that we have 3 current/former NFL head coaches that I know of, and we can't win a single game with a backup qb that went to other teams and won in the same season.

Love: going into every season there's enough talent assembled on the team that I can believe the team can go all the way.

Loathe: no home field advantage at AT&T.

This thread is probably destined for the rant zone, but I'm curious what is the #1 characteristic you like about our team lately and the #1 characteristic you hate.

I love the fact the we are constantly churning the bottom of the roster during the season.

I hate that every year we seem to have those fluky games where nothing goes right and we're turning the ball over like 10 times.

What say you?

Coming from perspective of "over the years" I'd say that what I love most is the "Cowboys mystique"...beginning when I saw my first game back in the 70's...the pre-snap movements, the shotgun, the Oline hitch prior to going set...all of these innovations added to the Cowboy "mystique"...and then fast forwarding to the 90's when that sense of mystique grew exponentially with Jimmy bringing that indomitable sense of swagger. Now it is their relevance on a national level even though we really haven't won anything of note for decades (that last one is both a blessing and a curse I suppose).

The thing I've loathed about this team (and the organization in general) is we've seemed always to have a glaring fatal flaw that, as a fan, you could see coming from a 100 miles away but we did nothing about it OR our attempts to address majorly failed for whatever reason. One of the most recent examples is our attempts to quickly fix the secondary when we acquired Carr and drafted Mo in the same offseason...bold moves to fix a years' long problem with our secondary (despite having a highly drafted player in T Newman) - which had been ignored for quite some time - but it still failed miserably after all was said and done...99% of the time this failure to address the glaring issue effectively (either due to lack of action OR taking the wrong actions) came back to bite us majorly in terms of winning and losing. Parcells, with all of his great contributions to building up the team after so many down years, screwed the pooch when it came to glaring gaps in the oline (through poor drafting and even worse decision making...remember Rob Petitti as our starting offensive tackle...and who could forget Pat McQuistan and the signing of Jason Fabinil??!). And the pass rush situation has me majorly trippin' going into this next season...other "winning" organizations seem to be able to address their glaring gaps much more effectively than we do. Sigh.

Great topic!
