The National Insurance Crime Bureau recently released new findings on the most stolen cars in America. The annual “Hot Wheels” report analyzes vehicle theft data submitted to the NICB by law enforcement agencies from around the country. According to the NICB, during 2015 there were more than 700,000 vehicles stolen in the U.S. “While older vehicles still dominate our Hot Wheels most stolen list, the number of late model vehicles with anti-theft protection on the list goes to show that technology isn’t foolproof,” said NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. “Criminals are doing their best to defeat anti-theft technology through hacking and other means while, at the same time, manufacturers and others are working to improve security.” The NICB recommends car owners practice good common sense including always locking the vehicle, having a theft warning device or app, as well as immobilizing or tracking solutions. It’s no surprise that the list of most stolen vehicles is a close reflection of the best-selling vehicles in America.

1. Honda Accord
52,244 stolen in 2015
Most stolen model years: 1996
Continuing its streak for another year as the most stolen vehicle in the United States, the Honda Accord’s dubious fame is a direct result of its popularity with drivers everywhere as economical, reliable transportation that retains its resale value. And the sheer number of Accords on the road provides thieves with easy choices and access. Smartkeys were introduced on Accord in 1998, so most of the stolen models come from years prior.

2. Honda Civic
3. Ford Pickup (full size)
4. Chevrolet Pickup (full size)
5. Toyota Camry
6. Dodge Pickup (full size)
7. Toyota Corolla
8. Nissan Altima
9. Dodge Caravan
10. Chevrolet Impala

I'm surprised no Saturns made the list. They don't make them anymore, so their parts are worth their weight in gold.

These lists are always skewed because the higher selling cars over the past few years will usually top the list each year.

Exactly. There are more of these vehicles around, so there are more to steal.

I still see a lot of them on the road too, I imagine not hard to steal. They must be getting parts from somewhere. Had a 97 model, put a quarter millions miles on it before the transmission finally started to go out.

There goes my Honda Accord. And it is red color. Shall I exchange it with another car? :)

I have an '03 Saturn Ion. It has an anti-theft system, plus I put a Club on it. Spare parts are a rip. I end up paying a lot to get it fixed. The Ions at the junk yard are always stripped to the bone. Now I'm going to have to get its clutch fixed. I'm dreading bringing it in. It still works, but when I park the car, the clutch pops up too high, and when I go to drive it, I have to push the clutch back into position. Arg.

That probably won't be cheap...not sure what could be causing that. Mine was a standard too. Not sure why they quit making them, I'd buy another one

I don't know that I would buy this car again. It had a problem where in cold weather it would not start and I would attempt to start it for 15 minutes to no avail. Then I would have it towed in for service and it would start right up for the mechanic. A new battery didn't help, and no mechanic could figure out what the problem was. I finally googled it and figured it out. The '03 and '04 had a problem where in cold weather some problem with the ignition wiring would make the car think someone was trying to steal it, so it wouldn't start no matter what you did for exactly 15 minutes. The problem was universal in almost all 03 and 04 Ions. People in warm climates didn't experience the problem because of where they lived. That damn car nearly got me fired because I was constantly late for work, and was even unable to return after lunch one time. Once I knew what the problem was, I was able to get it fixed at the dealer, but I still had to pay to fix the design flaw problem. Then about 3 years later they recalled it, 3 years too late for me, of course. Back in '05 when I bought this thing I was also considering a Mitsubishi Eclipse and a Honda Civic. If I had to do it all over again, I would probably buy one of those.

Wouldn't it make more sense to buy something else at this point?

The problem is fixed and the car is paid off and it only has about 106K miles on it. I've been meticulous in its oil changes, so its engine is in great shape. Those are all its pluses for hanging onto it for now. On the minus side, replacement parts are expensive.

Why in the world would anybody steal a Ford Pickup? You run the risk of it breaking down before you ever get it to the chop shop! Crazy Stuff......

Sounds like you have a hydraulic clutch that needs a simple bleeding. JMO.
