What about Dak should really excite us

The thing I'm most excited about with Dak and even Showers - I believe our offensive philosophy won't change as drastically as it did when we had Brad Johnson/Jon Kitna//Kyle Orton/Brandon Weeden/Matt Cassell come in when Romo went down. These two young guys play the position more like Romo than any other backup we've had during the Romo era and I truly feel thats why our offensive production went to squat every time Romo went down.

That's ridiculous. This team worships Romo. Dak Prescott worships Romo.

LeBron said the same thing when he lost.

Romo is a leader now. He was not a natural leader like you said. It took him years to grow into the roll of leader.

...is that he shows a potential for greatness, and thus, be the eventual replacement for Romo to lead the team to future victories and Super Bowls. In the meantime, he grows on the bench for the next two years as he watches Tony lead the team to two Super Bowls.

1) He looked great in his 1st NFL game.

2) He plays the most important position, BY FAR, in football. If you don't have a QB, you usually have nothing.

I know the rest of the NFL took notice. With that being said, I betcha the price of backup QBs just dropped significantly.

1. He doesn't make the game more complicated than it should be

2. Every pre snap isn't a fire drill

3. He has an aura about him that his teammates will believe in and follow

4. He threw a deep ball right on the money

He already manages the game better than Romo. If he looks good vs Miami and Seattle, I would start him opening day. In modern NFL, if a guy has it he has it. The days of he needs time learning are over.
Your train derailed at #5.

He definitely gave us something to be happy about on here, but with time behind Romo it can only help him.

The one thing I'd like to see this year is Romo slide or hit the turf early if he's going to get hit, and I don't care if it's a chicken crap move or not, he just can't afford to get hurt this year. The last thing we need is for Dak to start this year and I totally mean that.

Romo is a great guy to learn under. He's a professional and knows how to prepare and has a great work ethic. If Prescott can get 2 full years of watching Romo and learning from him without having to play too much. I can see him having a really nice career and don't think it will take 8 years to find a QB like it did the last time we had a "franchise Quarterback."

But you think Romo sucks so what does it matter if he gets injured?

I'm excited because he reminds me of a young Romo. In this day of the NFL, a QB should be able to pass in the pocket, but athletic enough to buy some time for the WRs to separate from coverage or gain some rushing yards.

I liked the dak pick...not specifically because of him, but because its the kind of wb treatment ive wanted from the team for 5 years. Saturdays performance just made me comfortable knowing that he is capable of carrying an offense. If Romo goes down im good with Prescott taking over. Even if he sucks, we'll be developing a guy that has proven some potential and wont be just wasting time.

THIS - I am excited about him sitting and watching. Not excited at all about him possibly seeing the field. He had ONE good showing, which let all of us know he has the skills to play in this league. Now he is fortunate to have the opportunity to sit and learn the game. Hopefully he will get opportunities doing some mop up duties.

Truth be told, I was excited about the coaches letting him take snaps from the pistol/shotgun position. It made me think that they may have learned to adapt unlike last year. I never understood the big deal about it seeing how many snaps Peyton Manning took out of the shotgun position.

I love the guy, but Romo is not a natural leader. Took him several years to grow into that role. You remember his quote after the 44-6 loss to Philly 08?
You mean when his dad had cancer and he said if losing a football game was the worst thing to happen to him, then his life was pretty good?
That one?

Any babbling fool who thought that he was supposed to say losing a football game was the end of the world then had lost all grasp of reality.
It actually showed maturity and depth.

The problem was, in the heat of the moment, a bunch of mental midget yahoos do not want to hear that from the QB. I think he learned that....that football fans can be buffoons and you have to take that into account when speaking to the press.

He was out the game early, had an hour or two to mentally suffer through the defeat before being asked the question. By then he had gained perspective.

Maybe he should not have said it....but he was 100000000000000000000% right.
Nothing to do with team leadership. But maybe something to do with dealing with low IQ fans.

Anyway, after ranting on that, I will say that Dak coming out of the SEC and carrying a team probably gives him an advantage at this same age over what Romo had.
Both had the "it" factor and both had leadership skills early on, but Dak was way ahead in the national stage category.

I seen a couple of idiots on ESPN telling all the Cowboys fans to calm down. It's 1 Preseason game. We don't care. We can be excited. I know I had no idea how good he is or is going to be. He gives us hope that we have somebody that can scramble and throw the ball down the field. I'm not putting him in the Hall Of Fame yet but it does feel like that maybe they got a steal in the 4th Round.
