no your post was that parcells didn't think ware was good enough and jerry identified ware as the better player.

it was business. they knew Merriman would hold out and talent wise they were the same.

It was widely reported that Parcells wanted Spears over Ware and it seems Broaddus said Parcells wanted Merriman over Ware and Jerry made the final decision.

Part of me believes they are keeping Rod around to keep his injury-recovering, blue-chip brother, Jaylon, happy.

there is really no logic in that.

I think they actually like him. What role he has here other than special teams I have no idea. That is what we will find out. It will be interesting to see which of the smith's dress sunday though.

yes because of the postons. Broaddus told me and dcfanatic that story personally way back in 08.

Who said logic has anything got do with it?

So Broaddus is not keeping his story straight right?

And it still does cover the fact he was saved by Jerry from not picking Spears at 11.

Welp!!!:muttley:

no welp at all.

He had a lot of tackles and their secondary and linebackers were a mess. A guy like him getting situational rush opportunities this year with a better roster will have success.

im not calling the front office terrible because it is not and this is not a whine fest. this is a simple thing to me.

A defensive end from a major program that you clearly studied when taking Jaylon Smith who can help right away.

or a college basketball player who maybe someday could dress on a roster for an nfl game.

Nothing like Aaron Rodgers, Dallas switched defenses that spring and marcus spears and ware allowed them to do that. It was a pick that made sense, it was completely logical.

that is not my point. the point is gathers had zero chance.
They tried to take defensive end with there second round pick. Both the guys the wanted got drafted ahead of them. They supposedly even tried to trade up with the Browns

he is a good role player. Yes your right they signed him in 14. He had 53 tackles and a guy like that on a rookie UDFA contract is perfect for a roster like ours which is salary top heavy.
Where is the credit for La'el Collins, Barry Church, Romo who were all UDFA. No team is perfect and every team makes right and wrong decisions. What happens if Rico develops and takes over for Witten when he retires? It's unknown right now and I think we can't go off of a preseason. Players, especially low round and UDFA, needs some time to develop. Let's see in a few years what happens.

Wasn't Okwara their first visit? I imagine they did their homework on him.

that was a money issue. It wasn't stephen and jerry identifying the better talent, they didn't want to deal with the postons. When they explained to parcells that he would hold out and missed time they all agreed on ware.

broaddus has been telling this story since 08 and people still can't get it right.

somehow one managed to miss this story.

do you have any links where this story is laid out in detail?

thx

Also our DE issues are that we dont have proven starting quality pass rushers. Not that we don't have enough unproven prospects. We probably too many unproven prospects

You can do this with literally every late round draft pick that doesn't make it.

That's why you didn't choose to make your comparison with Anthony Brown who looks like a really good player in the 6th round.

The difference with Anthony Brown is a lot of people were like, why is this cat still available in the 6th round? No one really was like that with Jackson and Gathers. Brown is a kid that produced in college and wasn't really considered a project.

Pick # 217 that was used on Rico Gathers who never had any chance at making the roster could have been used on a player that could have been useful here.

The Giants for the second year in a row have found a quality defensive end in the rookie free agent pool. Last year it was Kerry Wynn this year its Romeo Okwara.

With the 6th round pick #217 Dallas took Gathers while Okwara just sat there. Now no one drafted him so something about him was a turn off, but if you are defensive needy team which is putting it mildly concerning this team How do you not gamble on the end instead of guy who has never played football.

I simply do not understand this logic. Okwara had a great camp in NY and made the team. I do not know if he will dress on gameday this week but I bet he does since they plan to use JPP and Owa Ziggy as interior pass rushers in the nickel and other sets.

This just really bugs me and I would love to know who made that call, I asked broaddus and he said Dallas had Okwara on the board and chose gathers.

That is nuts. It reminds me of 2006 when the saints had success with marques colston and Parcells was mad and told the media during a PC that he had specifically sent scouts to hofstra and they didn't recognize Colston as a draft able talent.

Instead of having a guy like Okwara rushing as a reserve this sunday we will have kyle wilber and we will have to block okwara.

I simply do not understand decisions like this. Its completely void of reason. Drafting gathers when players who could still help were available is a problem, I am convinced since Garrett has taken over he has surrounded himself with people who can not recognize defensive talent. Something needs to change in regards to drafting defensive players.
I think it comes down to risk taking.

I agree they need TE help as Witten will be gone in a year or 2.

Its like taking Smith at #2..

Dallas had always played this game.

No use complaining.
