What Constitutes A Successful Season?

I'm 40. I was a 18 year old freshmen in college the last time we won a SB. It has to happen this year. I believe Dak Prescott will make history.

This.

It's our year.. just like it was the Cubs year and eventually the other teams had to fall back for history. We have been more than patient waiting for our turn. Dominating the regular season and not getting to a minimum NFCCG would be a disappointment. Superbowl would be house money.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Super Bowl Trophy. Nothing Less
Pretty much. It is not like there is some great team that could hold the Cowboys back in the NFC.

It would be a massive downer to have this end like 2007. So many special moments and adversity overcome for it to end like that.

It would be devastating. I know that some people might take solace in just overcoming the Romo injury, but seasons are year to year. Nothing to be proud of if you have a great season and fall short. Finishing makes it complete. Otherwise it is just empty noise good for trivia.

Exactly. You have to take advantage of the opportunity. Nothing is guaranteed in this league. I would also add that if Romo were the QB, everyone's expectation would be Super Bowl win.

Get to the NFC Championship game, and be in a position to win it in the 4th quarter. Win or lose at that point, still successful season to me. Loss there would sting, but I think I could live with it. Anything less (such as getting blown away with no chance in the NFC Championship) would feel unsuccessful.

At this point in 07, how confident were you in that team? Personally, l remember watching that final Commanders game and looked at my friend:"This team isn't winning the SB". That team shut it down and l never felt confident.

At this point, anything other than making it to the SB would be a disappointment. I don't believe there's a team in the NFC that's really scary. Green Bay and Atlanta would be the hardest tests but I believe we can and should beat them.

(This isn't a shot at sweetness0986, more of a general rant)

Declaring Dak a failure if he doesn't win a Super Bowl, something no rookie in the entire history of professional football has done, is deeply stupid and almost unbelievably juvenile.

Then again this is the fanbase who hated Romo for losing games when the defense was historically terrible and the coaching staff were outright buffoons, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised a few people think that way.

Dak wouldn't be a failure. He's already done way more than expected. I don't think he's a one year wonder either.

Yep.

That's why your whole level of success definition is even more meaningless... because it's a game.

Hey if some of you want to boo-hoo if the Cowboys don't win the SB this season so be it.

I and several others will not be joining you.

Amen.

When I consider THIS season in a vacuum. An NFC Championship is a MUST. Anything less is a MAJOR disappointment. I feel this way for several reasons. First of all...we have the BEST record in the NFC. So having to go to some tough places like Seattle is removed as a roadblock. Being at home through the playoffs also means weather as a factor is removed. We have the leading rusher in the NFL. We have arguably the best OL in football and they are all relatively healthy...with a former starter in Collins ready to come of the bench. The preseason "top" NFC teams has proven not to be so tough...Seattle...Carolina....Arizona....Green Bay...with a couple of them missing the playoffs all together. We have beaten some of the more successful organziations of the last 15 years in Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Green Bay. We have beaten some of the top defenses when we played them in Baltimore, Green Bay had #1 run defense...Minny had a top defense....Tampa was a top defense..Detroit had held 5+ straight opponents to under 20. We have shown the versatility to beat high powered offenses like Pitt...like the Commanders. I said all that to say....we are battle tested. So losing in the divisional round would be a bust like it was in 2007.

Having said that...Dak and Zeke are so young...they will bounce back no matter how we do. But something about them tells me they are not satisfied with being young guys who have gone farther than any of us imagined. And if that proves to be true...we have a foundation to be in the hunt for the next 10 years.

The regular season has been a rousing success considering what we were facing Week 1 coming off a 4-12 record the previous season. Now that we're here approaching the playoffs with HFA, i would say at least 1 win to get us to the NFC Title game is a must.

Getting Dak's RZ QB rating in the top-5 of the league is all that really matters this year, IMO.

When you have HFA throughout the playoffs and are a 13 or 14 win team then anything short of a superbowl appearance has to be considered a letdown.

Now that aside... Any season where you find your new young franchise quarterback is an unmitigated success.

If we do both I'll be on cloud 9.
