So here are the D.Ends. who do you want, and who's realistic at 28?

Quick twitch is what we need. Someone who has some jump as we don't really have that with Gregory potentially never wearing the star again.

Some small school prospects could be in play here in later rounds.

I think Jordan Willis is underrated, and would be great in Round 2. For the first round targets, I would be fine with Charles Harris. Missouri has done a great job with developing linemen (Aldon Smith, Sheldon Richardson, Shane Ray, Markus Golden have all shown that they can play at a high (pun intended) level in the NFL). Lawson's injury history is a concern. Not a fan of Charlton.
I like willis. Not sure if he has the burst and bend to play on the weakside though.

as a day 2 guy hes fine. He has the burst and bend. He needs to develop more pass rush moves. after so many snaps hes easy to predict. He has the size and tools but a ton of work is needed. If college Tackles are able to figure him out fast and early then Pro ones will have their way with him.

I think there is less hype than simply more DE depth in this draft but this includes not just RDE's but also LDE's for our consideration and purposes.

Of course those top three you mention are the most talented, there are RDE players like Takk, Lawson and Harris that could be around at #28 though this could change in the draft process.

There are also options throughout the following rounds to add to the DE mix that can add to the rotation.

This is why we will still need some DE help via free agency.

Harris weighs more than 235 dude.
You're right. My bad for quoting ANY stats from Drafttek. They are notoriously slow in doing their job. He was probably 235 coming out of H.S., but they are too lazy to change it. Now that I know that his true weight is 255-260, I have a higher grade on him. He still has trouble when you run right at him, I noticed on video. Could be due to the change of DCs before this season. Won't truly know until he plays in all-star games, the Combine, etc. I still stick with my pick of Ryan Anderson, especially since I've found out since then that he truly hates his opponents, & refuses to smile on game day. We need some throwbacks like that to bring about some domination in Dallas.

Cowboys are not fond of drafting small school players these days, unfortunately. In that vein, what about TJ Watt?

Maybe so, evaluating them is tough but it seemed to work out pretty well with DeMarcus Ware (Troy)

I watched TJ Watt a lot at Wisconsin and he dominated against bad competition but didn't do too well vs. good Olines. He's not very big and he's had a couple serious injuries. IMHO, he is overrated due to his last name. I wouldn't touch him before the 3rd round.

Watt will be a third rounder IMO. Draft is very deep at EDGE rusher. And I'm a big proponent for small school gems just do not believe Cowboys current brain trust feel the same, feeling is the big schools prepare players to contribute right away. I actually would have drafted Javon Hargrave over Maliek Collins and Ronald Blair/Matt Judon over Charles Tapper. Sometimes you have to believe that dominant production, or no production, will translate - never mind the school or the underwear Olympics.

And Ware was a consensus top 20 pick the year he came out, been a spell since that's been the case for a small school player.

Assuming we don't trade up? We all want Garrett but he's going top 3 probably. Some intriguing players with various shortcomings:

https://***USER-BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1***/draft2017DE.php

Nobody is perfect, but I like Charlton of Michigan who right now has risen on most boards to the mid teens. Williams of Bama is a helluva player but as the article above states, he's got Randy Gregory ganja syndrome.

I also like Walker of FSU, Smoot of Illinois and....ahhhh screw it: what do we have to do to get Myles? Yeah, I know it would cost us dearly, but I want him because I think we could win a Super Bowl with him next year. You guys know how good he is.

For me:

1) Myles Garrett: I don't care what it costs...he's the best player in the draft and it's not close IMO

2) Walker of FSU: he's a stud IMO

3) Taco Charlton: He's solid but I don't feel we should have to trade past 16 to get him

You would have taken Hargrave over Collins? I was a big fan of Blair. I wanna see what Tapper can do before though because i was a big Tapper fan as well. Matt Judon was a surprise... well to me at least.

Will be interesting for sure, on the team right now we have way more LDE than RDE. Depending what we do with our own - Crawford, Irving, Tapper ? Crawford. RDE - Mayowa and Gregory (Gone for another year) DeMarcus Lawrence may have another back surgery. So it seams like a RDE is the greater need, but again looking at this upcoming draft, a plethora of LDE's more so than RDE's.

Speaking of the Second Tier guys, what are your thoughts on Carroll Phillips or Josh Carraway?
I like Carroll Phillips a lot!! I think he is better than his teammate Duane Smoot. Josh Carraway has some ability but not sure he can be a star at the next level he could be a solid #2 DE for a team but not sure he can be a #1. He can be Demarcus Lawrence type.......

Any input on Phillips off the field stuff? I've heard "red flags" but not sure what they're in regards to. If there is anything significant, what's your risk tolerance on him, round-wise? I'd say no earlier than 4th, but willing to go much higher if he's the real deal and checks out off the field for us.

Im not sure I believe he came from junior college but he played for Lovie Smith and most likely he got his head screwed on right now. Just like Jalin Tabor his stuff is stupid kid stuff. He got caught with a joint on him and the other him and some friends had a house party and they got drunk and got in a drunk stupid fight.Just maturity issues. We just need a couple of players to slam their heads into a locker to get them to get the picture and grow up.
