So here are the D.Ends. who do you want, and who's realistic at 28?

Im not sure I believe he came from junior college but he played for Lovie Smith and most likely he got his head screwed on right now. Just like Jalin Tabor his stuff is stupid kid stuff. He got caught with a joint on him and the other him and some friends had a house party and they got drunk and got in a drunk stupid fight.Just maturity issues. We just need a couple of players to slam their heads into a locker to get them to get the picture and grow up

If he's on the radar they better grill him hard during evals; and if we take him they need to attach him to someone like Jaylon Smith and have Sean Lee give him the business day 1.

As you know Dave, I like Walker but no one else on this board does. Meh, What do I know? I didn't think Zeke would he 1/2 as good as he is. OOOOPS
Walker is a lot like Thomas.

They probably won't be true edge 4-3 ends. But very good 3-4 ends or especially 3-T.

That is the deal with our search. Just because that player looked good in that scheme in college, we could and probably will turn up our noses.

We draft to prototypes and traits.

That little shorter than average DE that is productive will get overlooked for that taller, long armed player with length.

One big reason I am ready for Marinelli to go and hopefully we get a little more flexibility in terms of pass rushers.

You would have taken Hargrave over Collins? I was a big fan of Blair. I wanna see what Tapper can do before though because i was a big Tapper fan as well. Matt Judon was a surprise... well to me at least.

Yep. Hargrave should be in a 4-3 IMO but he will still be very good in a 3-4, he's a beast against the run, not just as pass rusher. Hargrave was a day one starter for Steelers. Collins really surprised me actually, but he still has a ways to improve against the run to be a true starter. And Judon is going to be a better player than Tapper IMO, he's just as athletic but a more polished pass rusher. Tapper gets the edge on run stopping, if his back holds up.

I like Walker, but as a 3 tech in Marinelli system. Otherwise he's a 3-4 DE for a Wade Phillips type 1 gap scheme.

Who are your Marinelli replacements?

I think as Collins continues to add strength, he will be very hard to handle in both pass rush and run stop. He has an explosive 1st step you just can't teach. And Tapper was taken due to his explosive athleticism. His ceiling is much higher then Judon or Blair. His floor is lower tho. Here is to hoping Marinelli can work his magic.

Pleasantly surprised with Collins but Matt Judon has just as much ceiling if not more than Charles Tapper. Both are similar sized (6'2 270 vs. 6'3 275) and speed (4.59 vs. 4.62). 225 lift (23 vs. 34). Verticals almost identical (34 vs. 35). Broad jump, Tapper with edge (9'11 vs. 9'01) and Tapper may have little more burst/long speed but bend and power are clearly in Judon's favor. And only one of them had 20 sacks in 2015. Hint, it wasn't Tapper.

Idk. Tapper dropped down to 260. He said his burst and bend are better then before. Tapper may not be a 3 down player tho.

I'm on board with Harris 100%. McKinley most likely will be gone, but it doesn't matter Harris is a perfect fit for RDE in a 43.
I'm really growing tired of D;Lawrence, and Randy Gregory (just forget him).
If Harris is there at 28, I'm all over it. I slightly disagree as better fit for 3/4 vs 4/3. He's ideal for us, he'll get after the QB
Trust ME

I forgot about Tapper, problem is they can't hope he's the answer. If he proves to be good then we have good depth and he's big enough to play either side. As far as I'm concerned Lawrence should not be resigned whenever his contract expires

DLaw was not drafted to play LDE. He was 6'3" 250 at the time of draft and we moved up and drafted him to replace Ware as our top pass rusher. He didn't move to the strong side until we signed Hardy and drafted an even better (on paper) WDE in Randy's Gregory last year. He only moved back to the right side this year out of necessity.
Marinelli said after that draft that DLaw was going to get big and be an ideal LDE.

That's interesting, I don't remember that at all (not saying it didn't happen). I think he's definitely proven to be a good complimentary rusher and was solid at the strong side but I still believe the extra weight may be a contributing factor to his back issues. It does make me wonder why we moved up to get him if Rod didnt view him as the WDE, when by all other accounts we did.

I think there is less hype than simply more DE depth in this draft but this includes not just RDE's but also LDE's for our consideration and purposes.

Of course those top three you mention are the most talented, there are RDE players like Takk, Lawson and Harris that could be around at #28 though this could change in the draft process.

There are also options throughout the following rounds to add to the DE mix that can add to the rotation.

This is why we will still need some DE help via free agency.
i think once the romo for sheldon richardson trade is confirmed, and if we could get sheard in fa then we have a very good line, obviously the 3 i mentioned will be gone by 28,but i dont see lawson, mckinley or taco as coming in and being studs,so unless thomas, allen or garrett drop quicker than rg94 then i would rather use 28 on gettin a good corner or linebacker.....if we can add a good de in free agency which sheard should be a primary target and then draft keionta in the 3rd

For me its...

Garrett
Allen
Thomas
Barnett

Taco

After that it's anyone's guess who is the best bet between McKinnley, Harris, Lawson, Walker, Willis, Kpassagnon, and Basham. They all have their strong points and warts.

Can't really speak to them because I don't really look at the players like that.

I am sure they will find some guy who has arms two inches longer than some other guy and overrate them.

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter who we like.
