Wow, there are some bad basement GM's in those threads.

Just goes to show you. It is one thing to be wrong, we all are. But there were some weird rationalizations about Henson that were just crazy even in the face of seeing Romo prove himself. There were still people saying "pedigree" and the aforementioned arm strength were qualifiers when it was pretty clear just from watching Romo that there was something there. Then the intangibles were dismissed as being like Clint Stoerner.

Maybe people just did not like his face.

He did look a little more like a punk back then, then turned into the lovable Romo.

Ok that pic is kinda creepy.

The beginning does look like a mug shot, then he is smiling, where did that come from?

It is a time lapse picture from an article. Did it with a lot of QBs.

http://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/2...9-other-qbs-aging-since-their-rookie-seasons/

Reminds me of the things where they would show pictures of soldiers pre-war and as they progress through combat.

Cutler's and Alex Smith's are pretty funny.

Well, Eli looks like the same chromosome has been missing all along.

Makes me think, hate to see a dude with a massive receding hairline.

Brees has the award for that in that article.

Interesting read. Like the poster who said Romo is not the future.

I remember Aikman was doing a Cowboys game way back then and he said we didn't have the future QB on our roster yet. Sean Payton knew what we had in Romo and apparently so did Parcells. Payton wanted to take Romo to New Orleans and Parcells said no. Kinda makes you wonder how Romo's career would have turned out in NO under Payton.....

My first thought on Romo was his game winning drive in 04 preseason against the Raiders. That one got me thinking that he might be worth some of the hype he was receiving.

I'm not afraid to say I was an avid reader and only occasional poster who at the time was sure Henson was gonna be the man...And was wrong. Eitherway at the time I loved watching and reading about Romo's and Henson's development, mostly because I hated to have a team with a retread QB like Testeverde and Bledsoe.

Romo, way back in the day, used to write a column for one of the local papers featuring his personal adventures as a rookie QB for the Dallas Cowboys. I remember getting a kick out of that, he was way young and funny to hear his take on what must have been a crazy ride! I recall finding it through here but may have been a different version of this site. Anyone else recall, have a link maybe?

Hope you weren't one of the ones laid off, Tyke :(

Actually, I was. But it was a blessing in disguise (though I didn't think so at the time). It put me out of a job, but just in time when a major company was looking for a PR specialist. I didn't want to go back into newspaper reporting full-time 1.) because the field was changing dramatically, which meant more future layoffs 2.) because journalism is getting too subjective, and I'm old school (I like reporters to report and not commentate, and I didn't want to "engage the reader" through social media) and 3.) because I didn't want to have to move to another city and start all over again covering cops and meetings at old hours.

So when this PR job opened up, I applied and within six months was hired. It was one of the better jobs in our metropolitan area, and had I not been laid off when I did, I likely never would have found or applied for the job. Some of my newspaper colleagues who were retained during the first layoffs, got laid off about two years later. But by that time, all the good PR jobs (newspaper and television reporters/anchors when they tire of journalism, go into PR) were taken by the people laid off during the first round of layoffs.

So it worked out great for me. :)

Yeah, it does make you wonder. I think he would have been like Brees and won at least one Super Bowl. The Super Bowl Brees won wasn't so much the offense as it was the NO defense was prepared for Peyton Manning.
