We received a legal Cease & Desist order from the law firm of Dallas Morning News (DMN) today requesting we no longer allow DMN content on the site.

It's unfortunate given that we usually send DMN's web site several hundred users in traffic each day, but it is their choice and their content so we will abide with their legal order.

On the bright side, there are a lot of other great Cowboys news sources available which will help all of us keep up with the latest Cowboys news.

Well screw them. The only time I go to their site is via this site.

That is disappointing news. The newspaper business is under a lot of stress but I would have thought they would welcome referrals. My sense is tht the DMN will begin requiring subscriptions to read their web page. Their subscription base and ad revenue from old fashioned paper newspapering is going down the toiltet.

They must be on deaths door, their stance on this issue cannot help them in the slightest, in fact it makes me want to avoid them out of spite. I wouldn't even know what they're publishing if it wasn't for posts here which caused me to go to their website to read an article.

Now, I'll never go at all. Makes me wonder if the people in charge over there are over 60 and communicating via actual mail, fax and good ol' Morris code.

Like many other newspapers in the world today, DMN is becoming increasingly paranoid when it comes to the internet utilizing any of their content. Needless to say, newspapers in this day and age are in grave danger of being driven out of business. They see other media sources as a serious threat to their existence and understandably so -- they are exactly that.

This is certainly no imaginary concern, evident by the fact that newspapers around this country and the world in general are being forced out of business, due in no small part to other media sources rendering their existence a lost cause.

Having worked myself as a longtime newspaper employee in the past and seeing my former employer (The San Antonio Light) go extinct, it's not too difficult to understand their plight. Like many other employees of that long-existing metropolitan daily publication, I saw my career ending after 32 years in the industry. It's tough to see so many careers go up in smoke but they're now simply unfortunate victims of progress.

It's a scare tactic. You can't prohibit somebody from posting a link to a website any more than you can prohibit somebody from emailing the DMN's physical address. But I wouldn't want to deal with any legal issues, either.

Yes, but they have a legal team. CZ probably doesn't want to devote the time or effort to that. Much easier to just cu it off and move on.
