Yikes. You are vastly more optimistic than I. I think the offense is very loaded pending Dak continues his progress and injuries are minimal. There isn't but one player on defense that has yet proven he can play at a PB level and that's Sean Lee. To project the D will even be good is total speculation and hope. That said, I do hope you are right.

That said, our coaching staff would still be junior varsity compared to 1992.
I certainly understand your sentiments about the coaching staff.
I like Marineeli over Wannstedt
I like Zimmer over our guy Baker
I like Matt Eberflus over Butch Davis
We have a solid staff that fans continue reading old scripts from.

Possibly the most talented Cowboys team I have seen.

Gathers
Tapper
Switzer
J. Smith
Collins

If all of those guys become good players, this is the most talented team the Cowboys have had since 1978.

What about 1992?

This team would be more talented than that team!

the defenses on the 90s championship teams were light years ahead of anything we've seen since.

this defense could lay a huge egg in the coming season. we just don't know how quickly the secondary gels and if the rookies are even NFL capable...and who knows if we have anything that resembles a pass rush.

I like seeing the optimism here, but we could realistically be in the bottom 5 on defense.

The offense is definitely Super Bowl caliber and loaded with talent across the board. Defense, special teams, and coaching are the question marks that will dictate how successful the season will be. I'm optimistic though and can't wait for another exciting year of football!

Not really

They would have trouble vs today's offenses.

They played in the dead ball era of the early-mid 90's.

Go try to check out one of their games on YouTube. Be careful: offense will put you to sleep

1995 offense was good. 93-94 was a tough watch

Seems to me like they scored every quarter and scored more than the steelers did. So I guess if the cowboys did "jack squat" than then the steelers did far less than "jack squat"
Cowboys beat the team I hate the most in the World !!!! :yourock::yourock::yourock::yourock:Yeah it was a REAL Good DAY:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

It is clear that the Cowboys have done a very good job or acquiring talent and the window remains open to win a super bowl. I guess how much talent the Cowboys have relative to other teams is the subject of legitimate deabate.

I would say that most people would agree that the Cowboys have top 10 overall talent and should be a favorite in most of their games. Some would say that we are top 5. I personally think we are in the discussion that we may arguably have the best talent overall in the entire league.

A lot remains to be seen, but there should be even more optimism from our 2016 rookie class. If Jaylon, Tapper and Rico turn out to be all that and a bag of chips and we continue to get the same or better play out of the other rookies in the class that actually played last year we have a chance at having the best one year draft classes of all time.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say at least one of the additional rookies (Smith, Tapper, and Rico) will become a starter this year. I really believe we will get more than that out of them.

I really see the only question marks as secondary play early on and pass rush. If we can just be average in those categories in the first half of the year we are going to win a lot of games folks. We should be better than league average in the second half of the year.

What can derail us? An injury to one of the big 3 on the OL. If Freddie gets hurt it's a different ballgame.

If Dak or Zeke are out, then it's a bad deal too. Oddly enough if Collins gets injured (on defense) it might hurt us as much or more than if Sean Lee gets injured. He is a very important piece of this defense.

If we can stay healthy, this could be a very god defense, and that includes Jaylon and Tapper. I predict top 7 defense if we stay healthy, with more upside than that. Tapper may be our x-factor this year.
I think our Achilles' heal over the past say 10 years has not been in the top tier talent area (i.e., the top 1/5 of the roster) but in the lower 80% of the roster. I would argue that for years the top 1/5 or perhaps even 1/4 of the roster (some years) could go toe-to-toe with virtually anybody. I think the real issues we've had is the lack of quality depth within the 4/5 or 3/4 of the roster...if a starter went down, the falloff to the backup was significant (usually an UDFA). I think we're doing a much better job of talent acquisition/development within the "non-premium" ranks of our roster. While this example is somewhat unique, think about in years' past if we had lost our starting guard or tackle for an extended period as we did with Collins last year or event Free a couple of years earlier when Parnell was able to step in and provide quality play. We are seeing that more and more as the OVERALL (top to bottom) quality of the personnel has been elevated. We still have vulnerabilities as you point out (I'd put Dak going down at the top of my list as I am not of the mind that Tony will be waiting in the wings and leaving the network gig)...I think there's also a big question mark at TE still pending an answer (even though he's old and slow, Witten still gives us leadership and stability and would be a big loss if he were sidelined in my view). Otherwise, I think the overall versatility we have across these group of young players would allow us to adjust pretty nicely.

I agree with everything you said, except i don't think losing Witten would be devastating at all. He is ok but nothing special at this point. He is a first ballot Hall of Famer, but he is just a guy for the most part at this point.
