The NFLPA had better recognize this is the end of the NFL

2 massively crazy parts I have seen so far.

1. Pete Harvey, a former Attorney General, stating that Thompson did have an eye witness....herself. This is the dumbest statement I've ever heard a lawyer say. And why one wouldn't simply argue that by that logic EE had an eye witness there for EVERYTHING he does...himself...is something that needs to be brought up to this ding bat.

I hate to get into conspiracy theories and I would like to believe that a former attorney general would keep things on the up and up. But that is such a bizarre statement that I can't think of any other explanation for it. Either Harvey is actually mentally incompetent from some sort of early stages of mental dementia or he was so desperate to prove EE wrong that his thinking has become so skewed.

2. The league demanded that EE and his attorneys come up with a way to explain the bruising on Thompson. Nowhere in any court of law or arbitration would a person's innocence in a matter be dependent upon them being able to explain what happened to the accuser. It's pure lunacy. It's basically requesting that EE solve the case for them.

She lied to the police and tried to get her friend to lie. She also was involved in a fight (which she apparently denied the first time around, that's why the DA had to get sworn affidavits). Is it too crazy to believe that any previous bruises may have been from another fight she was involved in with somebody else that nobody knows about? And if she was willing to lie so badly to get a story to the police...is it crazy enough to think she will stoop to any level possible to make it look like he attacked her (i.e. bruising herself, getting a friend to strike her, manipulating photos, etc)?

But the league's mindset is that even though we have no reason to believe Thompson, EE is supposed to figure out what happened to her. And even then they don't care because they just plainly dismissed the fight she was in with the other woman at a bar.

This is now WAY bigger than Zeke or theBoys. The NFL has basically ruined a young mans reputation with a so called case that no DA would take to court.

This cannot be allowed to stand.

Part of it comes off like Goodell trying to show Jerry that he's in charge. And I agree with Charean Williams, I think this will be the end of Goodell as commissioner.

The issue is when it comes to male on female violence in this country we either fully support the female and take everything she says as the gospel or if she's caught lying we drop any prosecution or punishment towards her and often times still feel sorry for her.

It's also tough because it's the Dallas Cowboys. Cowboys fans will support EE, but too many fans of other teams simply won't care and will revel in the entire deal. EE really needs to go an extra 10 miles in this to clear his name. He now has to figure out how Thompson got those bruises, he has to bring forth a criminal record and/or a trend of Thompson falsely reporting abuse with other men and has to get the DA to change his mind.

Unfortunately, many fans of other teams will not care...until it happens to a player on their team. Now that the floodgates have been opened, rest assured it will happen.

It's 45% and google is your friend.

I find that impossible to believe. I question how they came up with that number. Go to any stadium, sports bar, etc. and there is no way that 45% of the people there are female.

The NFL states that it's 45%...and I'm just not in the habit of believing the NFL at this point.

I'm guessing it was off the top of his head. Let me introduce you to a notion known as rounding. . . .

right, like rounding up that for every 1 woman that I know watches football, I know 30 men that watch it....unless, of course, they are counting being in the same building when there is a game on, then the 50% makes more sense

one other example, my wife and daughter would not watch a game (other than the SB) if I begged them, and I watch as much football as humanly possible

Don't use the New York media, or its fan to prove any sort of argument. Their journalists are TMZ fodder media ****** and their fans are arrogant without reason or intelligence.

You remember, this is the same team who's kicker beat the **** out of his wife, admitted to it and then got one game. He was defended by the NY media. It's also where Goodell's best friend resides and runs his franchise with a WR that's as volatile as ANYONE in the NFL without repercussion.

Nice summary re the hypocrisy of punishments.

So all writers in NY are without merit and all NY fans are dumb?
Are you serious ? I can't speak to ALL fans, but yes, all writers in NY are dishonest hacks, well beyond those covering sports. Have you never read an article in any paper about a subject you know ? They're idiots, every one of them.

I think they are counting watching as " the TV is on while others watch" versus really immersed in the game itself.

It's a sad indictment of our society.

I can't think of any other situation in life where the accuser is caught lying to the police and asking a friend to lie to police for her and people believe everything else around the story.

Not only does the NFL believe her, but the DA's office as well (they just can't prosecute it).

This is the only situation where this would ever exist...a woman accusing a man of assaulting her.

If it was a robbery or a man accusing another man of assault, etc....the accuser would lose all credibility once they were found to have lied to the police and tried to get a friend to lie to police as well.

But here, because a woman accused a man of assault, we believe her even when she is caught in a lie in writing.

Exactly. And we're talking about a HUGE lie to the police. This isn't something like, "Yeah, you look good in that hat". To the police. That's the kind of thing that dents your credibility forever. And then, you're going to take her word on the VERY SUBJECT about which she has already lied to the police ? You're kidding me, right ? Unreal.

To me they threw out the 6 games to look tough on the issue, while ignoring the reality of " proof"... It seems like they want to EE and the cowboys to agree to something less so they can claim " justice " has been served.

If this was a provable, in the court/police/true legal system, then ok a punishment is deserved, but reading what you have wrote leaves with a feeling of " guilty and never proven innocent" from the beginning.

What's to make anybody believe that Thompson didn't inflict those bruises on herself or get somebody to do it for her or that she got into another fight with somebody?

If anybody here was caught, red handed, lying to police and tampering with a witness the punishment would be swift and severe. Apparently not in Columbus, Ohio.

"Women currently make up 45 percent of the league’s fan base" - Johanna Faries, NFL vice-president of marketing

------

Female viewership of the NFL grew by 26 percent from 2009 to 2013, according to Athletic Business, an online resource for sports professionals, which also says that 53 million women in the U.S. watched the 2015 Super Bowl, almost half the total audience of 114 million.

Don't blame Fuzzy for it. If you google it, the first link that appears has an article where it's stated at 45%. However, it's from an anonymous NFL spokesperson.

45% is close enough to 50%.

Having worked in marketing and advertising analytics and having done statistics involving with research and consumer research studies it never ceases to amaze me how faulty and incorrect so many statistical studies and polling procedures often are. Even in Peer Reviewed papers I see a lot of bad statistical methodologies and reasoning that I can't believe makes it past a Peer Review board.

That's why I detest it when people will 'quote' studies that say certain things. Too often the person quoting the study gets a legitimate study's figures wrong or the study itself is just flat out terrible and poorly done. You see this a lot out of studies like 'people who drink 4-6 glasses of wine a week are 50% less likely to die of cancer.' Or the infamous study on the gender wage gap and the infamous study on there being a 'rape culture' on campus where 1 out of 4 women gong to college have claimed to be raped.

What I do know is that I've been to countless cities in the US, numerous NFL stadiums and training camps. I have never been at a game where the audience was nearly an even split of male to females. I've never been to a training camp where the audience was nearly an even split. The same for going to a sports bar on Sunday or any type of Super Bowl party or even the football fans that I am friends with, those in my neighborhood or ones that I work with. Nor are 50% of the members on this forum or any football forum, female.

So my guess is that either the study was extremely faulty or...having experienced this in advertising and marketing....the league made that up with the intent to let other female fans know that they are not alone and to entice sponsors to give the league money.

In fact, I cannot think of no other major sport as a whole, where 50% of the fans are female. Maybe soccer or tennis, although I would be skeptical of that.
