From what I've read, I think Cameron has the Rights back. And if that's the case, I can certainly see why they want to ignore everything else that happened. They took 'his franchise' in directions that he never wanted and never agreed with.

I've always liked the series and if anyone can get it back on track, it's the man responsible for it.

Everything after 2 has been terrible. I agree with Stash above, if James Cameron is running the show again, he could go back to the tone of T1 and 2, they could have something. The only thing is now Arnold is old as hell, what young actor could carry the screen the way he did; he was basically mute until he met John in part 2? The tension Arnold (he just fit the part to a tee and his Austrian accent also happened to sound precise/machine like; all German/Austrian accents do) brought to that character would be hard to replicate.
