It's sad that he has a reputation of only playing well in a contract year because he played hurt instead of being soft and sitting out. But fans want guys to play hurt....but soon as you play hurt and look......hurt, you are loafing.......

anybody ever find it crazy how people always perform really well in contract years? happens year after year with plenty of players. its like, were you phoning it in for 3 straight years and just finally put in effort? wouldn't it be better to always put in that effort...would lead to more money, right?

And we have seen that here in Big D, for sure. But, he's here now and he's wrecking havoc, so that's good enough for me.

Really. I wouldnt even tag him. Too high of a risk.

Cut his arse lose after this year. Wasnt worth the 2 picks we spent on him. He already cost us way enough.
So if he ends up with 16 sacks and a pro bowl and you just cut him loose..
Championship!!!

he will go with whoever pays him the most money they all do its about the money for 99 percent of the players they all say they want to stay here but if some one pays them they will be gone

If he gets double digit sacks, franchise him. Make him do it again.

Otherwise he walks.

No long term deal for one year of production

Agree. Still worried about his back issues also

Nobody else on the d-line is making any noise, including the guy they just drafted in the 1st round. So yea if Lawrence continues to play well you absolutely re-sign him, no question.

He has the talent to consistently get 8-10 sacks a year, but he has had some serious back issues. Maybe he can continue to stay healthy from here on but it is risky.

He's finally healthy and it shows. People fail to realize he played with a bad back injury for the team.....

defensive ends, like corners, take time to develop. If he keeps his performance up, I'd give him a reasonable contract. Him and Irvin are the only ones who seem to get to the qb with anything resembling consistency.

The point is not what he achieves this season. The point is what he has shown over the whole span he has been here. And did he give you the feeling that you can extrapolate the one good season.

A player like Lawrence to me is not worth a annual salary of a franchised player.
Remember if you franchise him and he agrees his salary becomes guarnateed. If he plays to the level he played the 3 years before you essentially lost all your money. Thats a high gamble.

Also i still think his stats are well overblown. He profits alot from playing next to Collins who to me does a very fine job of freeing him up. Lawrence has defiencies: his spin move is very medicore and fools nobody. He doesnt play the stun with the 3Tech very good. He had 1 sack from it but too often he gets lost in the crowd. His initial quickness is good but together with his power style its the real only thing OTs have to account for.

The question is: Do you find a more relieable player in FA or thru the draft for the same or less money. I think you do.

I don't think that Lawrence is only putting in effort because it's a contract year.

He's just healthy.

This has been Lawrence's career:

2014 - Hurt most of the year as a rookie, no sacks
2015 - 8 sacks
2016 - Suspended then playing through injuries, 1 sack
2017 - Out of the gate on a blazing pace, with 3.5 sacks through 2 games.

The ability has always been there. The two seasons he's been mostly healthy and on the field he had 8 sacks and now is on pace to be in the top of the league if he keeps it up.

He's 25 years old.

If he manages double digit sacks this year and has turned into that kind of player and is healthy all year, you cannot let him walk. You franchise him for a year and see if he does it again, or you sign him long term if he is willing to take a modest deal (I can't imagine he would take a modest deal because double digit pass rushers in FA get MONSTER deals).
