These dlinemen deals are the toughest as cowboys fans cuz we always lose out in the end or the dlinemen just don't justify the new contract

We paid Ratliff and that turned out bad
We paid Crawford and that's turning out bad
Franchised Spencer and he didn't produced
Neither Wiley, Glover, or Tank Johnson played up to their contracts.

Eventually the Cowboys have to gamble and resign one of their own draftees on the D, even if he only has had one good year...they can not just let defensive players go every off season expecting to build defence while constantly rebuilding it...

I'd prefer them to let the RM go...it should be painfully obvious by now that he is no longer a capable DC.

Who gives a **** if it's a contract year. We need all on board, especially this defense, we need pressure on the QB. How we get it is of no concern to me.

anybody ever find it crazy how people always perform really well in contract years? happens year after year with plenty of players. its like, were you phoning it in for 3 straight years and just finally put in effort? wouldn't it be better to always put in that effort...would lead to more money, right?
Just as many players have bad contract years. You just don't remember/pay attention. Look at Alshon Jeffery for instance.

Contract year, schmontract year. As long as the guy is productive, who cares?

Going forward, with his back and substance abuse history, they should manage him year to year. I wouldn't sign him to a long term deal at all, unless there were team friendly outs built into the deal.

I dont trust him at all. Regardless I dont think they can pay him. Martin and Dak on deck.
You don't think they'd pay him so that they could invest more money on offense? Yeah that's not happening. Martin will get paid. Dak is 2 years away form that being in the conversation for him. IF Dlaw continues all year to show more of what he's put on tape here they will tag and sign him. No questions asked.

Ratliff outplayed his first extension, the second one went bad when it got personal with Jerry
TCrawford is barely into his deal.... his last 2 cap hits were 2.8m and 4.2m
ASpencer wrecked his knee and he was on the franchise tag and not a big extension so it works bad both ways

DWare was great, Jason Hatcher was a success, Greg Ellis worked out, Glover was a good FA sign..... sometimes it works

Not to mention Dak still had a lot to prove. Cuz right now based off performance he's at best worth Alex Smith money, not elite qb money or even Curt Cousins money.

Glover was a good signing and he played very well in the 4-3 defense for three seasons. Unfortunately, Dallas switched to the 3-4 his 4th year with the team.

It cost Dallas very little to sign Tank Johnson.

Sign him to a one year deal. If he performs sign him to another and so on.
Easier said than done. What if he has a really good year, say 12 sacks or so. Do you think his agent is going to accept a 1 year deal when he is likely to be a free agent or get the franchise tag for 17 mil? This could be a real tough decision for the FO if he has a really good year.

Ratliff- I'd agree, worth noting it was Ratliff's second extension which ended poorly
Crawford- I'd agree
Spencer- He posted his best season after being franchised tagged, he was tagged again after that season and played in one game before getting micro fracture surgery.
Wiley- I'd agree
Glover- 4 time pro bowler and 21.5 sacks in his 4 years, what did you expect?
Tank Johnson- he didn't live up to a minimum contract? Guess I disagree

Yeah. The idea that we wouldn't sign a good pass rusher in his prime so that we have powder dry to spend more money in 2 years on offense is the craziest thing i've heard in some time.
