I remember being ridiculed on here in the preseason for daring to say that he was the best hope for our pass rush and singing his praises. I know health was the main reason for the ridicule, but it's like some forgot how he played at left end when he settled into the role two years ago. He was a special player who got derailed last year by suspension and then injury.

after this 3 sack game. I would say yes he is too expensive but Dallas will get decent compensatory pick.

This board jumped all over his case lol. Many here were ready to cut him.

If you franchise him, just say you want to see him on another team, because some bottom feeder is going to offer him obscene money. Just sign him now and get it over with.

Thats always the popular opinion and then everyone cries about our stupid contracts with Crawford, Austin, Barber and so on.

I'm always sceptical when players surprisingly have their best season when it's a contract year.
Its tough considering how the CBA only allows 4 year contracts on non 1st rounders. Throw in the 3 year rule a lot of coaches and GMs go by what are you going to do. He was not healthy last year but he showed what he had when he was healthy his 2nd year when he ripped off 8 sacks before his back acted up.

For all the posters saying franchise him ........notice below at a $17M tag would make him the 2nd highest paid DE in the NFL. Not only that, the tag would then be his floor for any future contract talks. I'm thinking if we can get to sign let say 3-year deal averaging 13-14M .........we should do it. We save $3-5M, plus minimize our risk a bit with only a 3-year deal.

What's even more impressive to me than the sacks is the CONSTANT pressure he's generating along with the ability to play the run as well. These are not blips on the radar but the result of relentless pressure through a combination of speed and power.

It's time to start talking about the elephant in the room.....

I don't see that happening. Do you?
No but I could see 18+ happening. He's basically been unblockable 1 on 1 and the Cowboys are going to start finding creative ways to make sure he continues to be one on one.

The good thing about this is now teams will have to dedicate resources to keep him away from the ball which should help Collins and the RDE

Maybe.

Not sure I would ink and extension now... With his back issues you may want to see how he finishes the season.

Then you could either resign him or let him do the free agency thing and maybe get a comp pick.

The other option is to franchise him, let him play the '18 season under the franchise tag and then make a decision.

Cowboys may need the franchise tag in the '19 season for Martin.
Well said, he has been hurt a lot, I want to see him go a whole season.

Besides the Crawford extension, the Cowboys have gotten steals with all of their extensions.

Tyron, Scandrick, and Lee were extended and are bargains at their current contracts.
