Hardheaded and proving a point?

What am I missing to give the impression that La'el is playing poorly at RT? Is this based off that one play, where a DE that ran a 4.52, who already had a head start was able to get around him and cause a TFL?

I really don't understand why this is a question other than to try and find yet another creative way to belittle the team.

I think it is pretty common that most teams will play their younger players.

Hard for some younger players to get better if they don't get time on the field.

At one time we lamented the idea that they would NOT play the younger players enough.

Also...Rod likes a defense that is going to rotate a number of players on the line.

Whether or not Taco can become something or nothing...he is going to be in the rotation to see if he can learn to become something. Plus It is pretty clear that Tank is going all out and needs some rest from time to time.
We also seen other players out there like Mayowa and Moore.

The secondary is having it's hand forced to play some of the younger guys due to injury and some of them will probably be better off for it like Lewis. I would imagine if not for the injuries...Lewis would not get hardly any time at all right now due to missing most of training camp. But now he gets the chance to show what he can or cannot do.

Those things can hurt us with lesser players at times but it will also help us weed out the lesser players going forward and help us sharpen the better players.

I'm in awe that I'm reading this after three games. Thank God the coaches haven't heeded the 3 game rule. Zeke might have been cut last year.

As bad as Zeke has been these first three games...He is still in the top 10 in rushing yards. But number one has a huge margin right now so I don't know if Zeke and this Oline can really give him a good chance at getting the rushing title again this year.

Every team puts players out there in a starting situation who are meh (at the moment).

Can't have high-performers at every starting spot.

Let's face it , we are VERY young at a lot of positions. But here is my question. Are our coaches just being hard headed, or are they taking an "it's not hurting us yet" approach with players like Taco, Jalen, or LC. These guys are not helping do anything but filling a position on the field. You can't argue that they would be playing if we had better options. With that being said, if they continue to learn and get valuable experience, they could good in a couple years. Well, Jaylon and Lael could be. Taco will NEVER live up to a first round pick. He's just not good and doesn't show much upside. Are the coaches continuing to play these guys because of the experience hopes, or are they playing them to justify their ideas?

Player development. Ever heard of it?

Taco had three pressures last night in limited snaps. He need to work on his hands to win outside consistently but his first step and power have been good enough that it forces OT to cheat outside. That has opened up his inside move. He was drawing doubles from inside guard help because of it. He is stout at the poa. His playing strength has been a pleasant surprise. When he learns to bat away and grab OT hands like DLaw does he will be a force too.

Jaylon has been in the top 2 or 3 in tackles every week. He has gotten a couple of TFL, his range is obvious in pursuit and in his drops into coverage. Further he is getting better every week. He's not getting juked in space and has been a sure tackler. He is giving us something and he will continue to get better as he shakes off the rust from a year layoff and heals up his peroneal. He is already doing both and adjusting to the speed of the game.

LC was not nearly as bad as people claim he was in week 2 and he was solid this past game. He had Von Miller selling out on pass rush for an entire half. The pressure he gave up this game was when he brainfarted on a LB sugaring to his inside and him being late to adjust to the outside rush. Other than that he was consistent and had some key blocks including at the poa on Zeke's run. No doubt he needs to work on his timing and recognition but he is coming along fine and showing improvement.

About the only thing I glean from your post is that your ability to evaluate players is limited to generalities like good and bad and little to do with what they are actually doing on the field. Your take on Taco is particularly had to fathom given how he was generating pressure and forcing double teams.

Well contribute then....
OK.

It's pretty obvious to me that the coaches would rather have the young guys play 10-20 snaps a game and not full time.

The d-lineman are not ready for a full load. Jaylon is playing much more than planned because of the injury to Hitchens. The coaches will reduce his reps when he gets back.

The coaches went almost cold turkey on the back end returning only Scandrick, Heath and Jones. And signing Carroll. Everybody else are newbies. It's baptism by fire back there, and sometimes it shows glaringly.

In a prefect world, assuming the defense plays 1,000 snaps in a season, the coaches would probably like to see the news play maybe 300 snaps. If somebody surprises and earns more snaps, great. If somebody is really struggling, maybe they will sit a week or 2. Like they did with Tapper.

None of this is rocket science. Most coaches would like to ease in the rookies slowly to get acclimatized to the speed of the game and get their feet wet playing against NFL competition. Unless the rookie is an obvious upcoming star, like Zeke and Bosa were last year.

O-line is different because they have to play as a unit more than any other position. And the only way the new guys can gell is by playing, playing and playing some more. You can't sub guys in and out like the d-line.

Plus....it's September. Other than training camp and pre-season, it's the best time to get the young guys out there.

You have to see what they can or cannot do.

Ah, this brings me back to the good old days of last year after week 1, when this place was flooded with "Zeke is a bust!" posts.

Jaylon is playing because Hitchens is hurt.

Taco is playing spot duty to get him acclimated to NFL game.

I agree La'El should be at LG but we aren't in practice to know why they love Chaz Green at LG and La'El at RT.

Taco is only playing because he was a first round pick. He is not currently playing based off of performance that we have actually seen. That's for sure.

Frgot about Taco for a minute because he was always going to be a project,i am shocked Barrnett has done nothing so far.i thought he would be a instant success because he already had a variety of moves to get to the QB.

That's true. I'm not opposed to that. I am opposed to forcing the play of taco when he appears to be well down the list in meritorious play at DE. Play the young guys who give you the best position to win and develop. Don't just play him to validate the draft pick.

I agree.

Maybe Tapper takes his spot this week.

I stopped reading at the word "never."

It's hard to take analysis seriously when one dismisses the opportunity for improvement.
Great point. I recall so many people taking that stance on Lawrence, early in his career.
