The question that’ll make you queasy, do you want the Commanders or Eagles to win this week?

The Dallas Cowboys visit the winless San Francisco 49ers this week for a game on Sunday, then just over 24 hours from when that game ends, Monday Night Football will have the Washington Commanders (3-2) visiting the Philadelphia Eagles (5-1). The outcome of that game will drastically influence the state of the NFC East.

The Eagles currently have a firm lead on the division

Philadelphia is 5-1 with a pretty decent schedule through their game in Dallas on November 19th:

  • Washington Commanders (3-2)
  • San Francisco 49ers (0-6)
  • Denver Broncos (3-2)
  • BYE
  • At Dallas Cowboys (3-2)

That’s right. The Eagles have three home games in a row, one of which is against the 49ers. You could argue that they could win all three games before they go on their bye, oh and no worries they just travel to Dallas with two weeks of rest.

Considering the injury to Aaron Rodgers, the Eagles are arguably the NFC’s best team at the moment (to be fair the NFL as a whole is chaotic at the moment). Any division win for them, any win in general really, is undesirable at the moment for Dallas Cowboys fans.

The Washington Commanders have a bit of a tough slate ahead

Washington is coming off of a close win against San Francisco, who Dallas plays next, and they’ll have a disadvantage against Philadelphia considering the Eagles are coming off of Thursday Night Football and will have had far more time to prepare.

After that, the road is far more treacherous for Washington than it is for Philly:

While you can look at any Eagles game on the aforementioned list and lean Philly’s direction in most of them, it’s hard to do the same with Washington. The Commanders can certainly pose a threat to the Cowboys at the end of the season, but they’re far more likely to not make it there than the Eagles are.

A Commanders win helps the Cowboys the most

The ideal situation is that next Tuesday morning the NFC East has seen a Cowboys win, Giants loss (they host the Seahawks) and Commanders win/Eagles loss. In this scenario, Cowboys fans would be 90 degrees into a potential 180 degree turn around:

  • Philadelphia Eagles (5-2)
  • Washington Commanders (4-2)
  • Dallas Cowboys (3-3)
  • New York Giants (1-6)

This would then lead into a pivotal matchup between the Cowboys and Commanders in Washington during Week 8. It could swing some serious momentum in the direction of the Cowboys, and it all potentially begins with a Commanders win in Philadelphia on Monday night.
