The Astros choked.

You don’t go up like that and blow a 4 run lead that late.

I am reminded of a song.... this has begun....

Well, you can say they choked or, you can say they played exactly the way they have for most of the year. Astros have really good starting pitching IMO but they don't have a great Bullpen. That's pretty much exactly what you saw last night IMO.

I hear ya but disagree.
Joe Torre was known for “adjusting” for the playoffs... they are a different animal.

You bring in your closer for extra inning. 8th and 9th. Live and die with your best!

Used to be that way but hasn't been for a long time IMO. Now, you have to have a strong middle relief and not just an Ace Closer. Astros haven't really had that this season, IMO.

Regular season, you can get away with that but in the playoffs, you get teams that can have strong pitching down the line. Yankees, IMO, have the best Middle Relief/Closer combination in the bigs but they haven't gotten really good Starting Pitching. We saw that last night. They gave up a big lead early and had to come back. Yankees may or may not win this series but at some point, that's gonna come back and bit them if it continues. Yankees have to get quality starting pitching if they want to have a chance to win 28, they have to get consistent quality starting pitching at some point.

Still disagree.

Just because they do it doesn’t mean it’s an antiquated bad idea. Girardi does and will do it if need be.
Especially with Betances on the big hurt.

At this point I disagree with the statement that the Yankees haven’t had good starting pitching. We have starters pitching like aces in these playoffs.

The Yankees have the best starters, bullpen and closer... right now!

Again, I don’t get this.... “the Yankees need quality starting pitching”... are you watching these playoffs?

I don’t feel like breaking down all starter runs.... obviously most games total runs given up is very few
Minn.

I'm watching, are you?

Game 1: Clevelend won 4-0 Gary gave up 3 runs in the first three innings.
Game 2: Cleveland won 9-8 Sabathia gave up 4 runs in 5 innings.
Game 3: Yankees won 1-0 Tanaka pitched 7 scoreless innings. (Really the only really good start)
Game 4: Yankees won 7-3 Sevarino gave up all 3 runs.
Game 5: Yankees won 5-2 both runs given up belong to Sabathia.

Game 1: Astros win 2-1 Tanaka gave up both runs.
Game 2: Astros win 2-1 Sevarino gave up 2 runs in 4 innings.
Game 3: Yankees win 8-1 Sabathia pitched 6 innings, gave up no runs but gave up 3 hits and walked 4.
Game 4: Yankees win 6-4 Gary pitched 5 innings, gave up 2 runs.

I mean, this is not good. Really, only Game 3 was a good start. Next best is Tanaka again in game one of the Astros Series but we still lost. Game three by Sabathia we won but we scored a lot of runs and even then, that was not a great pitching effort. Astros just couldn't cash in on opportunities.

So yeah, I'm watching and you don't have to agree but what I'm saying is true. Yankees starting pitching has not been very good. If we want to win, we better improve there.

I agree, aside from the first two games in Cleveland, the Yankees pitching has been more than adequate. Their main problem is some bats going cold(Looking at you Judge).

Yankees win tonight as long as Judge stays hot and I suspect he will.

Great Pitching beats great hitting more times then not. The reason the Yankees bats are cold is because they have faced really good starting pitching.

I would not say that the Yankees starting pitching has been more then adequate. I would say it's not even average. Now, the quality of the teams played are higher but even still, starting pitching has not been adequate and adequate, that's not going to win you a championship, IMO.

Yup.

If Judge and Sanchez don’t get going... we can’t win enough games to win it all.

I'm pretty sure the Yankees would not even be here if their pitching wasn't even average. The Astros aren't tearing the cover off the ball either. Could it be due to facing good starting pitching as well? :D

NY cold hitters + bad starting pitching does not equate to an ALCS appearance. I am not sure you are even watching this series :lmao:

OK, reading comprehension is not great here, I get that. I never said Yankees Pitching was not Average. I said Starting Pitching and what I really said was that I don't know if it has been. It certainly has not been what I can call good IMO. Stop with the stupid, are you even watching the series stuff. Obviously I am watching.

It's convenient to say the Yankees hitting is cold but the truth is that we have gotten shut down on the road. Yankees hitting is really only been much better at home. Yeah, lets say it's the Yankees cold hitting and not Clevelands or Houstons pitching. Whatever. This is why people hate Yankees Fans and Cowboys Fans. We complain about all the stupid crap and say it's this or that and we don't face the truth, which is, these other teams have had some good pitching of their own. It absolutely could not be that our starting pitching hasn't been great or that our hitting is not all that good on the road right?

Houston hasn't taken advantage of opportunities either but it's not cause the starting pitching of the Yankees has been overpowering. It's because the Middle relief and Closing has been really good for the Yankees. Yankees have won, what, one road game in the entire playoffs thus far? I don't think they've lost a home get as yet. They are two different teams thus far.

You don't have to like what I'm saying but it's still the truth.

Relax, don't have to get defensive:D

The topic had nothing to do with the bullpen, it was about starting pitching. Both these teams have had good pitching this series, that is all I was addressing. Houston is a bit better but NY is hanging in with theirs.

My whole point was......NY's starting pitching has been solid this series and nothing average about it. That is not to say it was the same during the season or even the last series but it is clicking against the Astros.

One of the reasons why this series is tied is due to their starters stepping up.

Oh, I am a Mets fan and can't believe I am advocating for anything Yankee related :lmao:
