There are so many.

High Noon
Shane
John Ford's Trilogy of Ft Apache, She wore a Yellow Ribbon and Rio Grande
The Searchers
Half a dozen of Clint Eastwood's starting with the Good Bad and Ugly

And there have been some fairly recently that were pretty good such as Open Range.

Trying to narrow it done to top 5 or Top 10 is all but impossible.

John Wayne was my favorite western actor; but Clint was sure a close second.
Sam Elliot; right there as well.

And the character actors from Walter Brennan to Slim Pickens; superb.

Some not so well known TV movies like Duel at Diablo.

Hard to disagree with you on this one, but my favorite character after was Bruce Dern.

Did Clint Eastwood ever cross paths with John Wayne on the silver screen? Those are my favorite "western" movie guys.

No they didn't. Eastwood asked Wayne to star in High Plains Drifter with him but Wayne turned it down and told Eastwood his script sucked . Eastwood jokes about how critical the Duke was of his script and he told him that he wasn't portraying the West correctly. They also kind of crossed paths with Dirty Harry. Dirty Harry was originally written to star Frank Sinatra but he hurt his hand just before filming. John Wayne was offered the role but turned it down because he said he wouldn't take one of Sinatra's rejects. Eastwood was the third choice, and probably ended up being the best. I would kind of like to have seen how Sinatra played the role though.

My personal favorite is the vastly under appreciated Silverado...

1)Silverado
2)Dances with Wolves
3)Unforgiven
4)Django Unchained
5)Wyatt Earp

Honorable Mention - The Long Riders
Honorable Mention - Young Guns
How the hell I didn't mention Dances with Wooves or Young Guns I don't know.

DWW is great and one of the few movies that portrays Native Americans more accurately. I also like how it shows their thoughts and lifestyle outside of warfare which most movies don't.

I love Young Guns because I was (somewhat still am) a Billy the Kid fanatic. On the other hand, like most Hollywood movies, parts of the movie piss me off due to how inaccurate or made up some scenes are but I get why they do it. Rarely is history portrayed accurately but I at least like it to be as close as possible.
