I still see some limitations but he's mostly learning the position. He tries too hard IMO and his run defense is poor even IF he is physically limited. He's still so physically gifted he gets a pass.

I see a guy who has no issued diagnosing a play and making a tackle that's straight in front of him, but who has issues sideline to sideline when he either has to evade a block or just get out laterally quickly enough. I assume that the latter is related to his injury, but it might just be his movement skill. He'll still make those tackles often enough, but it's when he's parallel or behind the guy and hooks him from behind.

Oh, and he can't cover. Maybe that's recognition, but it sure looks physical.

Yep. This does. Good call.

Or maybe we should give him one season playing. There have been players that have improved after year one.
Anyone that expected a star performance from smith was fooling themselves
What’s important from him is see improvement in camp next year

Indeed. A guy playing football in a leg brace for the first time in 18 months, and only because of injury, is a bust after 6 games.

Can't believe he wasn't Von Miller right out of the gate.
The fact that he’s still playing in a brace means he’s likely a bust. He’s never going to be good playing with the brace. At this point, it’s almost hoping for a miracle.

Yes. He actually looks that bad that it's safe for me to say he's a bust. He's a high second round backup linebacker who is a huge liability in all aspects

Hitchens has been one of the Cowboys most productive 4th round picks in a long time.

Other than Dak, Hitchens is the most productive 4th round pick since Doug Scrub in 2007.

3 year starter, never missed a game until this sesson.

Which shows how awful they've been drafting in the round when a bum like Hitchens is one of the best of the last 10 years.

He sucks. When/If the Cowboys ever have a good defense again he won't be on it.

You're Broaddusing.

He will fill the hole but fail to hit the guy appropriately. Not sure what that is all about. He's got to hit the runner or meet the blocker esp if he's managed to get to the hole. Not saying he always does that but enough for me to notice.

I can't say with authority he isn't moving laterally because of the injury. You'd suspect that is a factor. My guess is this is more just an inability to cover more than injury but that's pure speculation and easily could be as wrong as right.

Right now he doesn't play run defense well and has problems in coverage. That's factual.

“I don’t see a lot of physical limitations,” Marinelli said about Smith.

That's all I need to hear from Marinellie to know he just doesn't have what it takes to build a defense that is worth a deep playoff run.

He really has to go.

And you're cheerleading.

Cheerleading: To blindly support any player on your team regardless of merit to the tune of reversing your stance that DeMarcus Lawrence lacks quick twitch the moment he joins your team and that Byron Jones is only on your pre-draft overrated list due to a copy and paste error.

We all know that didn't happen.

Our team doctor examined him. That worked out real well.

You homers never quit. It's been a long time since the surgery and he's still wearing a brace.
