A---The Super Bowl is the only thing that matters. If we don't go, how can we really be called Americas Team? Speaking of that, are we Americas team? Americas team is supposed to be good sometimes. We haven't been good in a quarter century. I know we are ok sometimes.'But that's not what Americas team is supposed to look like.

B---Competitive team and it will be great if we have a chance to go a couple games into the playoffs, but there is always next year. I can't wait for Mel Kipers version 1.0 to come out. You know all those guys being drafted want to come to Americas team. we need youth to add to our entertainment empire.

C--- We have Dak, and Dez, and Witten and maybe this week Zeek, and perhaps Lee's hammy will be good for a few hours, But it doesn't matter cause we get to see our team on SNF or MNF and you know something is going to happen. Something always happens. Good or bad, the next day everyone will know why we ar Americas team. That's why we get all the national games , alll these players America wants to see.

What are some more types we have, help me out...sometimes laughter is the best medicine...

1. I am the first sentence of A.
2. Call me Troy Aikman. He said anything short of winning super bowl = failed season.

I agree.

After NFL films gave us the title America's Team from their yearbook films. I was proud of it, I liked it then, I still like it now. for those that posted you don't like it. Tough, learn to enjoy it. If someone comments on it, just smile, and if need to respond say, yes, yes we are.

Go to sports shops around the country, most places you will still see more Cowboys merchandise over any other team. Maybe in NY, Pittsburgh, GB, Philly it may be equal, or most NFL cities. But get an hour away, and you will see more Cowboys stuff a good part of the time.

And it is not because they are sold out of the home team stuff. You can tell by how the shelves are stocked. A place I went to in West Palm Beach when I lived in that are. A sports store, sold all 4 major sports and top 20 NCAA teams items, mostly clothing. He had 3 times as much inventory on Cowboys than he did the Dolphins. Said because he sold that much of them.

TYPE D - must, and I mean MUST do better (in this order) than Wash (hate them) but also Phi, NYG, and Pitt...living in NE Penna, bragging rights are king

Note: I would be closest to A in the original list...once Dallas is eliminated, the alcohol consumption goes up and I start to create my draft spreadsheet for the next season

For sure. Within a week after the GB loss, I started my...they must somehow draft Noah Brown...campaign

This year, so far I am thinking LB....

How old are you now? Maybe it is a generation type thing. But it was not a self proclaimed title. NFL films gave to us. Tex Schramm, the genius he was, took it and marketed it. Maybe you became a fan because of it and didn't realize it. But now as a fan you are part of it. Embrace it!

I think at the time I was offended. I didn't know any other Cowboys fans where I lived so they felt like MY team, God knows I took enough abuse from the locals (Steelers fans) for those damn Super Bowls. :banghead:

I know more Cowboys fans now, obviously, but I've just never taken to the name. It feels odd to me that fans take pride in it, as if it's some sort of accomplishment. But to each their own.

I don't care about the "America's Team" moniker. The titles I care about are:
1. NFC East Champs
2. NFC Champs
3. Super Bowl Champs
Players making the Pro Bowl is a plus.

I think the Cowboys are a flawed team, with a coaching staff and defense that will eventually derail their season like it has for the last 10 years.

.. but I'm an optimist and hope to be surprised :D
Wow. I don't think I have ever heard you take a shot at the coaching staff! How exciting.

This^^^

We have the offense that can play with anyone, but it's still a flawed system.
Our defense is just not good enough.

That's why Philly and KC should be in the SB this year. They are the two most balanced teams on both sides of the ball IMO. The Rams aren't far behind but I'm still not totally sold on Goff just yet.

The America's team moniker is a nickname, not a results driven award. We didn't have the most championships, nor were we necessarily the best team when Bob Ryan of NFL films coined the label.

Those that challenge the moniker are missing the point. It's not about who is on top. It's about a nickname that was relevant at that time. If nicknames are now up for grabs here's some that also need revisiting:

Titletown may now belong to Pittsburgh who now has the most Super Bowl wins. I mean does anyone really count the old NFL championships that were won prior to being required to win a championship game in a league consisting of 9 teams?

Were the "Purple People Eaters" stolen by the Ravens whose defense dominated for years in the 2000's?

Did Denver lose the "Orange Crush" moniker for years only to regain it, lose it, and regain it yet again just recently?

Sounds silly doesn't it. And that's the beauty of nicknames. They stick like glue. Nicknames don't require yearly justification, just a one time inspiration that personifies a person or a team at any specific time.

Like it or not, and as excruciating as it may be for haters, the America's Team moniker/nickname will be tied to the Cowboys forever. Year after year the minions will challenge it, only to see the flavor of the year team lose momentum in their quest to wrestle the nickname away from Dallas for good. It's a bitter tease that will never happen, but keep trying boys, it's really fun to watch!

Well said and excellent overall post. I used to ponder endlessly seeking why this nickname forfeiting nonsense (and it is nonsense) keeps resurfacing over and over. Some of the idiocy is envy driven but a portion of the agenda is illogically based as you mentioned. Irrationality cannot be rationalized. So I stopped shaking my head and finally accepted the fact that the nickname forteiting nonsense actually means something to certain people who lack enough imagination to think of an original nickname appropriate for their team.

Of course, the last sentence refers to non-Cowboys fans' thoughts on the matter. Cowboys fans seeking to quantify why Dallas cannot be called America's Team? I have no comment.

I have a different definition of America's Team. I think that crowd in SF personifies the nickname. Go to the team hotel at any road game and you will know why the Cowboys are America's Team. I'm not saying other teams don't have a contingency of fans, but no team compares to the Dallas Cowboys. Look at the ratings. People want to argue that Green Bay/Pittsburgh/New England are the real America's Team, but the ratings don't bare that out. The Dallas Cowboys are the NFL's biggest draw. Period. It has never had anything to do with winning Super Bowls. In fact, the nickname came about after a Super Bowl LOSS. That being said, there is something magical about the Dallas Cowboys winning (or even being in) the Super Bowl and not just to Cowboys fans. That's what America's Team is about. There is an aura around the star that even 1-15 couldn't make go away. We have a new generation of fans who I want to experience a championship. It is the ultimate goal, but being America's Team is so much more and has never been about rings.

Exactly this! When the steelers, pats, and packers fans claim that they are "America's Team", I just laugh. Sure, they have fans that travel well, but that's because they've been winning for the last 10+ years. Let's see how popular your team is when you go through a 20+ year Super Bowl drought. Let's see how many fans travel to your games when you go 12 straight seasons without a playoff win. Let's see how many nationally televised games your team gets after three straight 8-8 seasons, or even worse.... three straight 5-11 seasons. How about a 1-15 season? Cowboys fans have endured all of those things over the last 2+ decades, and yet we continue to love our team unconditionally. The value of the team continues to rise, the stadium is always full, and merchandise sales are always near the top. At every single road game, Cowboys fans are there by the thousands. Check your local listings.....there's probably a Cowboys game on in your city this week. Why? Because everybody watches. Sure the majority of America hates the Cowboys, but they all still watch.

They can laugh and tell us we're living in the past during bad seasons and then turn around and call us bandwagon fans when the Cowboys are good, but deep down most people are at least a little bit jealous of our team.......America's Team!

Used to be A, just hoping for B now a days. Winning or losing we will always be America's team just look at tv ratings, merchandise sales, and the love hate relationship with NFL fans....even the Patriots don't have that....once Patriots come back to earth no one will be interested in them anymore.

This is me:. The Americas Team debate is tired. Plain & simple - look at the ratings, overall team value and the merchandise sales; it's pretty clear who still owns the title, regardless of the product on the field.

As for my perspective, as usual, I think they are building something great here, but it is taking longer than expected for them to get deep into the playoffs. I do like this current roster better than I have in a long time... though there are few still remaining that are head-scratchers... Kellen. All in all, I think they have the ingredients to make something happen, but the key truth of the NFL that fans need to accept is the best team doesn't always win.

I think building something GREAT is a bit of a stretch for me. This team is no where near GREAT. Our Defense has ben awful for over a decade ( if not more ) It took Jerry years to figure out that winning battles at the line of scrimmage is alot more important than giving up premium draft choices for a WR( IE Joey Galloway and Roy Willams- im still sick over both those moves ) He was clueless for way too long and he blew the chance because he had a franchise QB. Ok so now they need to realize its time to do whatever it takes to make this defense good. ( ill take good ) You cant afford to miss when your defense is so so bad. Im sorry. This defense has stunk for waaaaay to long. Now its time to build this defense. Yes I know its going to take a few draft classes. I get it. Taco was a miss. Jaylen Smith was a stupid pick. We needed help right away. We were not good enough to draft a project. So focus on this defense and I know its so much easier ssid than done....but stop missing. Until this defense gets better this team will win nothing

A-1) Love The Team, love talking about how to improve it, love watching it develop because it’s my favorite obsession and it takes me away from being an adult for 5 minutes, if we lose, it’s because we need to build a certain area, fans that are extremely homerific and get uptight when I’m just keeping it real come across as teenagers to me but I just laugh it off, Postseason success is the goal every season....
