Before the Deflategate fiasco happened.

Actually, they were chilling in Israel this summer, smiling taking photographs together and this year he’s been in the owners box.

They go back years and Goodell has been his biggest proponent in the whole league. Roger’s father was tight with the Kennedy’s and Ted and Kraft were extremely close.

Deflate gate was a bail out for the franchise and Bellichek..

The guy destroyed tapes for Kraft in Spygate...

Good. He's done about as bad of a job as anybody can with his 1 saving grace being the 10-year CBA they got. But it's going to come at the expense of a work stoppage when the CBA expires.

With that said, he plays a very small role in the CBA being agreed upon. And that's not worth $40+ million a year. And that's even if he showed some modicum of competency.

It seems like a few of the real "moneymakers" for the NFL ie: Cowboys, Patriots, Skins, and others that are the bigger drawing cards for ratings week in and week out are the ones that want Goodell gone....while the teams that are on the NFL's version of SSI requiring revenue sharing funds because they can't produce a profit on their on seem to be ok with him.

I can't believe it's not been mentioned here but Jerry was locked out of the last NFL meeting with the owners over the national anthem issue. I'm sure the division between Jerry and Goodell is wider than we think.
Probably cuz' that's verboteno_O

Goodell gets his extension if he pleases the majority of the owners. He is just their front man and a business politician that keeps his soft job by knowing who and when to please them. He has the right connections and they are certainly not in Dallas.

Michael McCann just tweeted this. So I would say there is substance

Per story, 17 of 32 NFL owners seek to undo Goodell's pending contract extension. Hard to be an effective commissioner if most want you out.

I heard it reported on Sirius today.

Hijack? The owners are the ones who decide who gets to be commissioner.

I'm sure there is faction led by Mara who want it one way but one does not hyjack what one owns.

The owners' perspective is clear here: You can screw up all you want and keep your job, so long as the ratings and revenue remain strong. But once either of those things are threatened, watch out.

He's been screwing up for years. But it isn't until now, with the politicalization of the game among other things threatening its overall stability, that the owners care.

I can’t think of another commsioner that has had more poorly handled affairs than this moron. He’s a public relations nightmare and has poorly handled everything from a team spying on other teams to a woman being knocked out cold in an elevator with video evidence.

I strongly felt he was an idiot long before this Zeke travesty.

Ditto...he's a smug dirt bag.

Goodell's days are numbered. Jerry will close this deal.

unless I'm missing what constitutes success for Goodell in the eye's of the owners, with the state of the league the past couple years to where it is now, I fail to see why he's deserving a contract extension.

This league is run by a handful of owners who wield the power. That handful is against Goodell, except for Mara.

Jerry has had a long beef with Goodell's salary, I heard this morning on the radio.
