How to fix the passing game

The problem with the passing game is Garrett/Linehan only know 2 systems. First there is the 5 wide drop back 50 times like we did with Romo and used against Denver.

And there is the multiple TE pocket passing that’s currently being used to get closer to the 90s offense.

What we need is a Kubiak/Shanahan style offense that emphasizes a QB on the move. Dak is NOT a pocket passer. And teams are starting to figure out the PA boot.

More designed roll outs where pocket is on the move and Dak has option to keep it would be best.

Do you really believe the offense would have looked better last night without Dez? And if so, why?

Dez isn't the problem. He simply isn't.
Absolutely, we can't help but force it to a guy who isn't a #1 WR, it's a detriment. He is a horrible player and needs to just be let go.

Dez isn't the problem. He simply isn't.

He's part of the issue though. Other than maybe a guy like Martin and Frederick, just about everyone else can take some blame here.

For example, Dez has dropped more of his fair share of catchable balls. That alligator arms move he pulled last night was embarrassing. The Dez of 5 years ago would have snatched that ball and last night he short armed it because he was going to get hit.

To me though, when you have this many issues with this many players, it's time to start looking at the voice instructing these guys.

Ok. That's your opinion and I respect it just have to disagree with you. We've seen what Dez is capable of with a QB who can get him the ball. All of our receivers have disappeared yet we turn a blind eye to the real reason why because we're desperate to believe otherwise.

Dak just isn't that good of a passer and doesn't make the players around him better. Without Zeke he's lost. He can't see the open receivers, can't throw receivers open and is regressing every game. It's not all on him because he's saddled with a below average coaching staff and the team has been hit hard with injuries and a suspension to the best player on offense but he's been bad.

I hope he turns it around because when he succeeds the team succeeds but he has to improve his game significantly if this team is going to compete in the future.

Sometimes i do. THe ball seems to go around a lot more when Dez isnt on the field. As soon as Dez is gone, Dak looks to everyone.

Not happening this year.

In the summer, fire WR coach, Get a new STUD (Heard Megatron is ready to come back)

Dak needs help outside as much as he needs Zeke

Teams are keeping Dak in the pocket.......his %completion is lower than if allowed to roll out ...
****
Get Beasley visible to Dak in the middle of the feild, at least now wider than the hash marks....for him to run 5 yard outs is a travesty.
****
One imaginative play to Noah Brown.......one

use of intermediate to deep middle is gone from playbook. Witten to slow up the seam, other TE's have taken on Escobar roles. Brice Butler a forgotten man, TWill.....has reverted to bubble screen use.

We all were hoping to see some of N.E. offense with Bease and Switzer......not even a attempt yet, perplexing with problems at LT

Dak pocket accuracy......QB coach thoughts on it?

I think Dak’s pocket accuracy is because of his footwork. It has been inconsistent this year.

People forget that last year he was a very, very accurate QB. Completed 68% of his throws with a relatively high YPA.

This year his footwork has been inconsistent and that’s when his accuracy struggles.

Build a time machine, go back in time and don't let people get caught up in the hype of a rookie QB winning a bunch of games against an extremely poor strength of schedule and don't let people decide to replace a hall of fame potential, elite, franchise QB with said Rookie?

Or better yet take the time machine and don't hire a guy who has been a QB coach for 2 years to be your offensive coordinator (before you even hire a head coach) and certainly don't hire this guy to be head coach after 3 years?

Run it more and throw it less. Specifically go back to the running plays that are working more often and run more play action.

to fix the passing game will require new coaches to start and some new players dez needs to go need more speed at the wr position dak needs to play better much better he was awful last night there is no consistency to this team from quarter to quarter and halft to half much less game to game or season to season there is not a lot of hope for this team going forward if they continue on the path that they are on

Good route running coupled with speed would be a nice start. I hate to say it, but Witten's day's as a stud tight end have been in the rear view mirror for a while. Doesn't have the speed to separate from anyone and no longer has any straight line power for blocking. I'd say he might be considered just average at this point in his career. Father time is undefeated. PS. Course none of the first two matter much if your blocking sucks and Dak is looking out the ear hole of his helmet every 3rd play.

Being mad at Dak in his 2nd season because he's not Tom Brady is real dumb. It's true, but it's also a completely worthless observation.

Dak has taken 12 sacks in the last 2 games. Nobody wins consistently when that's happening. Not even, you guessed it, Tom Brady. The tackle depth is garbage and the coaches have shown zero ability to compensate by adjusting the protection schemes. Meanwhile the Patriots had to play a backup center and a backup to their backup tackle against the Raiders... and basically shut down All-Pro Khalil Mack.

Only 1 receiver on the entire team has a bad catch rate - Dez. Everyone else is like 60% plus. He's the odd man out and forcing him the ball is a drive killer. We need to stop pretending it is still 2014 and Dez is dunking on every corner in the league. He's just... not.

The Cowboys keep rolling out top-heavy rosters with poor depth and a coaching staff that can't adjust on the fly, and that's just a terrible combination.

I agree. Consistency with his footwork was his issue in college, as well. It has to improve.

Beyond that, we have to get more dynamic at receiver/TE. Witten is on his last legs, Dez has clearly declined, and the other guys are just JAGs. We haven't invested resources in this group in the last few years, and it shows.

And yes, the passing game scheme is just too limited. The Cowboys' offense is built schematically around the running game, and it depends on guys getting open based on the defense's commitment to stopping the run. We need to scheme guys open more.

I love all of this hate on Dez. It's really quite comical.

Name me one other person on this team that showed the same amount of passion and aggressiveness that Dez displayed. He ran with max effort. When he had the ball, he was attacking defenders, punching them in the mouth and not going out of bounds to 'play it safe'. The guy wanted to win that game and he showed it. He may not be the player he was 5 years ago but he's still the kind of guy that I want on my team. Most of that team quit last night. Dez didn't and that's why I'm a fan.
