For an Organization you either need a really great coach or a really terrible one.
Let me explain :
A really bad coach is obvious and usually gets canned in 1 to 3 seasons.
Examples: Steve Spurrier, Rich Kotite, Ray Handley.
They don't set the team back too much because of their short tenure.
The great coaches, because they are so good can stay as long as they wish : Parcells, Belichet, ect...
These coaches keep you in the mix , by making the playoffs most seasons.
This brings us to the worst kind of Coach :
One that is average.
They do just enough to keep hanging around, making you think just maybe they are a good or great coach.
In the end they are not and they waste years of a Team's potential.
This is my concern with Coach Garrett.
He has really good seasons followed up by terrible ones, or 8 and 8 seasons.
We ended up wasting Romo's prime years.
I wonder how many more seasons will be wasted ?

I think JG has at least the 2018 season locked down, unless something unthinkable happens like we lose all of our remaining games.

My money says he's around for AT LEAST one more season.

Not saying I love it or hate it, just what I think will happen.

If you cant say that you hate it THIS far into the Garrett era then there is little hope you ever will.

He is around through the 2018 season no matter what happens this year. We get blown out the rest of the games. it does not matter.
Jerry has his built in excuses.
Just wonder what they may be next season if all don't go so well, yet again.

Jerry West, former Lakers General Manager & current Golden State Warriors executive, said that the worst thing a sports franchise can be is average. You're not good enough to truly compete for championships and you're not bad enough to draft elite, impact players.

then there is this too.
A really bad coach, in Chip Kelly. but yet somehow the Eagles get rid of all those bad contracts, make trades, sign FA's, draft well, and with a new coach, he turns the team around in 2 years.
Same players, new coach, and entire new coaching staff in the Rams. Look at what they are doing.

So it goes along with your average coach theory of 8-8, and just how many times we had a win and in season ending loss. 3 seasons of 8-8.
Still to be seen, will this year be one of those years. Can our average coach turn this team and season around.

I refuse to resign myself to his return being a foregone conclusion. If that's the case, I'll be really depressed.

That says to me that there is no hope in sight.

It will get harder and harder for Jones family to put avg NFL product out on field because NFL is no longer rapidly expanding (its actually contracting now). So I hope Jerry enjoyed those years of 1000% growth with bunch of .500 teams because I see fans bailing if that continues.

It should be noted that their are plenty of excuses for this year :

1. The Zeke suspension.
2. The Key Injuries

So I would be shocked if JG was not here next year.

Not only that , Jerry has his hands to full with the Goddell situation, so he would not have time to handle a coaching change.

And the team was 5-3 before any of that. Only the suckers will buy that as any sort of legit excuse.

I don't see any reason why that would impact making a change. Sticking with a failure only makes your bad situation worse. Not only would he have trouble off the field, he'd have trouble on it too.

He's gone with anything less than 9 wins

Team hasn't played to its talent from preseason all the way to opening kickoff of the Giants game.

We were ran off the field by sorry *** Denver Broncos

It was early, their defense hadn't given up, I could see losing a 17-13 type game, but to get off the field was totally unacceptable. And Lee and Zeke were both in that game. Lee got ran over and Zeke got stuffed. You're shallow thinking if you think those guys solve the issues of the past two games.

This is what happens when the coach doesn't take care of business in August!

Other teams were grinding, while our coach was asking the DJ to pump the music louder

Coughlin went to Jax and got rid of the training camp music. Coincidence? I think not. But what about last season? No guaranteed carry over in the NFL. What Belichick say after they won the SB: This season is over. We have to get started on next season

Jerry West would make a heck of a GM.....and I don't care if its not basketball, he would be a success in any sport he was associated with.

Very good point. HC purgatory is one of the worst places to find yourself. I think you could quite easily make the argument that JG is even below average as a schematic/in-game HC.

Depending on the front office structure and how roster management duties are divided (i.e. how much credit the HC is given for constructing the roster well), this could be the absolute worst case scenario to find yourself in. In other words, JG's ability to build a solid roster but inability to get the team over the hump against other great teams/coaches could potentially hold the organization back for a shockingly long period of time.

I'm with you, this guy does just enough to keep his job. In 2012 he started 3-5 so we're out of playoff contention early, with the pressure off he goes on to finish 5-3 to go....that's right 8-8 and saves his job. The bad thing about that was that it was rumored that Sean Payton was waiting in the wings for the job.

I agree but I don’t trust this organization to make the right picks. We picked 4th in 2016 and look what we got.

Man I hate to see someone be depressed but you and a ton of others (Myself included) will be pretty unhappy when they don't fire him. He's going to get at least next year. The injuries and the suspension absolutely bought Jerry the excuses needed to keep him around another year.

He better hurry up and make the move. We're never winning anything with JG and Jerry isn't getting any younger.

Plus next year it will be the Gents turn to rise again with a new HC and top 5 pick. All they need is a HC right now, and Olinemen.

There’s a lot of truth here. Fans have a tendency to make Garrett into a sexier, more scandalous figure than he actually is. Nothing during his seven year tenure would suggest he is the second coming of Bill Belichick or Mike Shula. He’s neither good nor bad. He’s mediocre in a league full of mediocrity.
