Dallas's path to the playoffs much better than being presented

Look around the sports world right now, and most people look at Dallas and have the team at somewhere between "a very long shot" and "never really had a chance, given the NFC outlook right now".

Balderdash. Last week, I outlined where Dallas stands primarily from a tiebreaker perspective, and it was still very wide open. You have likely heard that Dallas's playoff chances took a major hit this week; that claim is pretty much false (literally true, but in practical terms not really).

It isn't that Dallas's road to the playoffs got "harder", but rather that the team didn't have the breaks it needs to have happen unfold THIS week. In other words, it was possible for Dallas's playoff road to unfold nicely this past week (in fact, it almost could have been ready to go in a perfect world), but just as it is unlikely that Dallas's playoff competition will win out, it was also very unlikely that everyone was going to lose.

Detroit's cake schedule is not a myth... just the Bengals who have quit this season and then the Packers who are about to quit this season. There is no good reason for Aaron Rodgers to be playing week 17. With the Cowboys and Lions both finishing at 10-6, Detroit's tiebreaker over us is better win percentage of common opponents. Never mind how big of a win it would be to beat Philly in Philly... The Dallas path to the playoffs is not just as hard as being reported, it's next to impossible... but welcome to the NFL where the impossible is possible.

We are alive no doubt from a legalistic perspective. Seattle is very winnable if Zeke is ON and ready to punish the other team’s D.

Philly in Philly,,,,,,,even with Foles,,,,,,,?

The bummer to me besides Dallas own losses is that Atlanta should have lost to chicago, Detroit and the jets.

Jordan howard dropped a ball at the 1 where he would have scored to win and then atlanta held on 3rd and 4th down. Detroit got the winning touchdown overturned and atlanta won.

Game of inches I guess.

Trying to stay positive....if GB does decide to rest Rogers, at least the team has won without him this year, their running game is actually MUCH better with Hundley under center and there's no way that I can see a McCarthy coached team 'mailing it in'. As for the Bengals, I hope they turn the bus keys over to McCarron because he's just a better QB than Ginger II. Need Mixon to be cleared from the concussion protocol, as well. Then we'll see how bad this team wants Marvin Lewis to come back. If they love their coach, they won't roll over and mail it in. Now, the Lions had a cakewalk schedule and it continues for the last (2) games. Yet, this is the NFL and anything can happen on any given week.

The most realistic scenario now is that the Falcons lose to both the Saints and Panthers, and the Packers beat the Lions.

I don’t see it happening but it certainly could happen.

Yeah that's probably the most realistic shot. Detroit can also lay an egg at any given moment.

next week could be a trap for us. Seattle got completely annihilated, embarrassed and they may be out for some redemption. Glad Zeke is back, which should provide an huge physical and emotional jolt to us.

Yeah, things change once the games are played. What has to happen becomes clearer. Doesn't mean what was reported last week wasn't true. Because you know.......things change. And this week it will change again. Could be for the worse or the better but you change.....things change.

agree, this its the only real scenario so that the cowboys have aspirations to the playoffs, and of course, win all the remaining games, but maybe the eagles are going to want to frustrate the aspirations to the cowboys in the last game. very difficult,

Detroit has to lose. and frankly that is looking less and less likely. Rodgers is clearly not close to 100% or even 90% and that showed. The bungles are mailing it in.
Dome teams who can't run the ball to save their lives generally struggle in cold potentially snowy environments... Also Detroit doesn't have to lose if the Bucs win at least one game.

I'm not saying you're wrong but I have never heard such a scenario before you that says Detroit doesn't have to lose if Tampa wins one game. Can you give some more information about this? Would it change the tiebreaker in our favor or what?

Detroit is the problem.

They get a Cincinnati team that has quit, and a Packers team that isn't going to shelve Rodgers for the rest of the way.

Cakewalk for the Lions, and we're done.

Fan site.

If you need several things to happen and have limited opportunities for those things to happen and an opportunity for those to happen passed by without those things happening, then yes your chances just got much harder even if they could still happen.
