Both teams were stacked.

The 01 Pats were a veritable Who's Who on D. And that's how they won the super bowls, D.

Least talented team I can think of who won the super bowl? Prolly the 12 Ravens.

really wanted diefree to respond here...

The Pats defense was good in 2001 - but it was a shadow of what it would become when it hit its stride in 2003 & 2004... That was the Pats D at its best imo...

But a who's who? I wouldn't go quite that far, at least not in 2001... They had a core of young guys most who had not yet taken over the roles on the D as starters - Bru, Willie Mac, Seymour, - and they had some guys who were great - Mike Vrable and Ty Law, and some who were over rated - Lawyer Milloy, Tebucky Jones, etc

But a lot of the '01 Patriot Defense was built around a bunch of players on the wrong side of 30 brought in by Belichick... Roman Phifer, Anthony Pleasant. Otis "My Man" Smith, Bobby Hamilton,Terrelle Buckley, Bryan Cox... so that defense always felt more patchwork than a complete defense... the mix just worked that year...
