This would make a lot of sense if the Bengals didn't hire OUR GUY as the replacement:huh:

So we think Cinci's zone block guy is better than the one we had and they think our zone block guy is better than the one they had, which just happens to be the guy we didn't think was as good as the guy they didn't think was as good.

The resumes of the two guys are barely comparable. Pollack had been the head OL coach for an NFL team for one season before we elevated him. Alexander has the experience and the reputation on Frank Pollack. That’s not even a debate. Whether he works out or not is another question, but on paper, we upgraded that position coach.

What's this dude's resume again?

Cable must not have been clean cut enough for choir boy Garrett.

Cable's O-Line in Seattle was one of the worst O-Lines I have ever seen. Granted, he didn't have a lot of talent, but the Seattle O-Line constantly botched assignments and there was no way getting around the fact that they looked like a poorly coached unit.

One of the best parts of the Bengals in the past 20 years was their O-Line. The problem for Alexander is that he would develop O-Linemen and then the Bengals would let them go in FA and they would have to start all over again. My guess is that they felt that Alexander was good enough that he could rebuild an O-Line which he did time and time again and they could spend money on other players.

And it wasn't like Cable had a few missteps in his career. He assaulted another coach and was accused of assaulting two ex-wives and an ex-girlfriend. And Cable's resume is that he was the O-Line coach at Atlanta for 1 year, then the O-Line coach for the Raiders when they were awful on the O-Line, then the Seahawks who have never been that great on the O-Line.

My only concern about Alexander is that he supposedly teaches some different techniques and I wonder what type of learning curve there will be for an O-Line, when healthy, is still one of the best O-Line's in football. I think Collins progressed nicely throughout the year and throwing in different techniques may set him back.

I think that is what everybody is questioning.

23 years with the same team and they would rather have OUR GUY instead?

Usually after 20+ years working for the same company, they give you a gold watch and a corner office, not drive you to the airport as fast as they can. Just saying, why?

Because the Bengals' offensive line was a hot mess this season. Just like Pollack paid for Tyron being hurt, Collins needing time to adjust to right tackle, the lack of a clear direction at left guard and the backup tackles playing awful, Anderson paid for not being able to coax his players to play better, even if it was more an issue of ability than coaching.

I think in most cases coaches get too much credit and blame. You draft three first-round linemen with the ability of Martin, Smith and Frederick, then your offensive line coach is going to look pretty good when all three of them are healthy and on the field together. If they stay healthy this year, Anderson has a chance to look like one of the better offensive line coaches in the league because Collins should improve as well and if we re-sign Cooper the line should have some cohesiveness.

Now, that's a simplistic approach to it because Anderson will likely bring some tweaks to the blocking scheme and techniques that most of us won't even notice. But it mostly comes down to the players. For example, none of the offensive line coaches he had could make Doug Free a great player. I think he did improve under Callahan, but if we had had a line full of Doug Frees, it wouldn't have been pretty because he was a serviceable starter at best.

Pull from the lower aspects of the coaching staffs.

Then fans would just complain we were going with a guy who hasn't been in the role we are hiring him for. Fans would complain no matter what direction the team goes.

The Bengals practically drove this guy to the airport to get rid of him after 23 yrs on the job..............why?

When the Bengals don't want you, that sends up red flags for me.

At least one article I read indicated Alexander was the one that decided not to come back - that his contract was up and he decided not to discuss a new contract with the Bengals.

What's the hurry?

Because if they find a coach they like but wait around hoping for someone even better they run the risk of ending up with neither. If they feel good enough about Alexander there isn't a reason to wait around and take the risk.

Read the guys resume. It's pretty impressive. They obviously felt better about a guy with 22 years of O-line coaching than Colombo who has been the assistant O-line for 2-3 years. I'm guessing the two will work closely together. I agree with your post, if your guy is there, grab him. They haven't rushed to fill the WR or ST position. They haven't found their guy yet at either position

C'mon man, we all know that Alexander was given the bum's rush (said with sarcasm)
