No, not strictly a pass catcher. He's a well rounded TE. He's just always hurt. When he's on the field healthy he's top 10 in the league easily.

As I said above, if people are serious about getting Dak more weapons in this offense, it would make sense to at least look at Eifert. If you don't like what you see medically, don't sign him. If he's going to get a decent deal from someone else, don't sign him. But if you could get him for cheap.............. it would make sense.

Wait so some are saying we need tank on a 1 year prove it deal but we should spend high dollars on a TE that has had 2 back surgeries.

Because, the "if he is cheap argument" is pretty much unproductive. if you look at the recent trends of talented TEs with injury concerns their own teams tend to re-sign them for good money, See Reed and Pitta. Eifert will not be cheap unless he has 1 leg. I mean I can play, let's get Brady if the Pats are willing part with him for 2nd and conditional 7th.

Don't say people are advocating spending big bucks on him when no one suggested we should spend big bucks on him.

He's a stud but I think he's starting to break down.

I'd rather draft but if Eifert is on the roster next year that would be great. He's better then Witten at this point for sure but definitely not as reliable.

He's a good all around player. Just injury prone but I would say he's a top 5 TE in the NFL.

This logic always perplexes me.

What's the harm in bringing him in, having the team get a look at him and if you get him on a cheapish deal, making a move? It's infinitely smarter banking on high upside than doing what we do, scrapping around for the likes of Nolan Carroll, who has no upside at all.

I take a risk on a guy like Eifert and his health, as long as the price is right, every day of the week. It's insane not to unless your team doctors just say no way.

The logic in this particular question is his track record is noteworthy and money used on a guy who is IR eligible more so than active on game days is money best spent elsewhere. Just my opinion though.

Sure, there is a limit to what I'd pay him. But if he is out there on the cheap and you can maybe get him on a cheap 1 year deal and he passes a physical, it would be a no brainer to me. He'd be the best TE on this team, by far, if healthy.

No way Witten would sit or will have a reduced role until he retires....also my opinion. I agree an upgrade is needed here as well just not this guy for me. He is just to injury prone regardless of the price/upside. Either way until Witten retires I just don't see it.

He's had a great career and is still productive, but he's also a limited player these days. He shouldn't stop them from signing or utilizing another TE that has a different skillset like an Eifert. Even if it means cutting into his snaps a bit. He's not elite anymore.

No one said he was elite anymore. All I said is he is the starter until he retires. That is a factual statement and true. Tell Hunter Henry who sat behind Gates the past two years, the far superior player, until Gates secured the All Time TD record, was Henry "given" starter snaps. Tell all the guys who played behind Gonzalez at his end. The great ones are clearly given some latitude. Witten who will most likely be the only HOF player for the boys since the 90s will be given this status as well. A guy who is as broke down as Eifert, who never plays, isn't going to get playing time over a guy whose skills have diminished, but never misses a game, and is going to the HOF. Just wont happen. Witten will most likely start losing some snaps this year but make no mistake he will still be the "starter" and still warrant a significant role. Until he retires.
