I’m a little surprised your this high on him cnub.
Like me, I thought you were worried about his size vs. NFL OLineman?
I have no doubt the kid can play, but what a huge gamble that he’ll be able to hold up (let alone dominate) at his size with the 19th pick.

He played elite run defense in a conference known for big O-lines and power running. I get the skepticism about a 280 pound tackle, but his size is not an issue on tape.

Hurst is my way to early prediction for the Cowboys; he fits what Rod Marinelli wants to a t. People want that big,run stopping NT, but Marinelli basically wants two 3-techs.

Sorry but Hurst is too light. Giving up 30 - 50 pounds is too much every play.
But it would be a Garrett style pick. "See we told you a 1-tech doesn't make a big difference"
If and I can only hope, they do decide its time, I am still on the Payne bandwagon.....

That's why we are a bad short yardage/goal line D. Every time it's 3rd or 4th and short/goal I pretty much give the other team a 1st down or TD in my mind.
I understand he wants to be disruptive but sometimes you need BEEF. The good BEEF and not just any kinda meat.

He might not be the most well known of the DTs in the top of this draft...however he might be the most underrated of the 1st round DTs imo.

Veta MIGHT be the exception at 1 Tech for Rod to endorse in the first round again..>MIGHT but otherwise I think it is fair to say that if we take a DT in the first, it will be a 3Tech.

Vita
Wilkins
Payne
Hurst
Taven

I think it is safe to say that the above are probably the first round DTs in this draft class...Maybe remove one or add one but for the most part those guys.

Wilkins is going back to clemson...Take him off the list.
Payne is probably a 1 tech for the most part with least position flex
Vita may be the exception who could possibly be moved around on the line.
Hurst and Bryan are probably the 3 techs with Bryan probably having more ability to move to end at times.

I think any of those guys help this Dline. I also think Hurst will be a better player than some think.

Personally I like Vita as a 1 and possible 3
Or
Bryan as a 3 and possible flex to end in some packages

But I would be happy with Hurst as I think he will be a good player.

Get a real 1T and we can get great production from Collins and Irvin at 3T

I just don't think Collins has the traits to be a starter. It's not just my opinion, this is directly from his scouting report. 3Ts need power to play the run, not just 1Ts.

"
BOTTOM LINE
Three-technique with impressive athleticism and movement skills, but a lack of play strength to hold up at the point of attack."

I think he'd be best utilized as a backup provide some depth as a nickel rusher.

Marinelli does not want two 3 Techs.

I am not sure why this has suddenly gotten traction this year.

Marinelli wants a guy at the 1 Tech that can be a two gap player with a little bit of explosion. A guy who can eat up blocks and occasionally penetrate. Look at the guys he brought in........... Hayden, Paea, McClain, etc.............. not one of those guys is a true, gap splitting 3 Tech.

I like Hurst but only if they are thinking he's a clear 3 Tech and they have other plans for Collins and/or Irving. Maybe they are thinking Irving goes to SDE and plays some interior DL in pass situations. Collins is then the 1 Tech (which I think is a mistake but they apparently don't) and Hurst is the 3 Tech?

Maybe but rotating with Irving he could be pretty good

If we want a true 1 Tech in the first round, a run plugger with a bit of explosion I would go, in order:

1) Payne
2) Vae

If we want a true 3 tech in the first round, a gap splitter who can collapse the pocket but hold up in the run game as well:

1) Bryan
2) Hurst

Frankly, I wouldn't be upset with any of the four. I think we need to really invest in the DL both in the draft and in FA. You are seeing teams in the final four that put value and arguably oversaturated their DLs - Minnesota, Philly, Jacksonville.

I agree
If we're not thinking QB (and I think we're not) then if Vita is there I run to the podium
Problem it's looking more and more like he won't be there

I want Collins to be a rotational player, that's what I'm saying. He's not good enough to be a starter which is why I'm open to a 3T in the first.

Irving rotates all over - again, he plays every position on the line and will still see a ton of snaps as a rotation guy.

And that is another reason I would be ok with Hurst or Bryan.
Of course that also depends on other players that fell and could be there but as a whole I would be happy with one of those 3 DTs because I think all three could help improve this Dline.

I like the pick if no more option at 19 pick, but I prefer Vita vea, I think the only two players worth trade up are Vita vea and Roquand smith, I doudt that Roquand fall out from top 10 pick, but Vea, the only team that I think could take him are the chargers if the Raiders dont take him, maybe a trade with the Ravens could be a good option to take Vita vea, because him its very flexible, and can give more dynamism to this line. the perfect pick for me its Vita vea.
