How would you feel about Jimmy Johnson coming back?

He was actually done in Miami before he quit. Robert Jones, who played for him both in Dallas and Miami say it was a different, less intense Jimmy.

I’d say that was probably more to do with the fact that Marino was basically done, but Jimmy kept him playing.

Jones basically said he thinks it may have been partly influenced because the players in Miami didn’t respond in the same way as they did in Dallas.

Maybe the teammates probably also saw Marino done but the fact he wasn’t being benched may have influenced their response to Jimmy. I remember reading there was a stretch where Marino’s backup went 5-1, so you can imagine what it would be like to re-insert a guy that had nothing left in the tank.

Marino was a shell of himself and lost arm strength and plagued by injuries and turned the ball over plenty.

JImmy’s Dream House got damaged pretty bad in the 2017 hurricane. He was actually crying in the interview I saw. Never saw Jimmy like that, it kind of surprised me.

He’s done with football. I don’t even think he was as serious in Miami. It was close to his boat and a huge check for him to sail off into the sunset.

The day he quit he was out on his boat the next day from what I read.

Pride before common sense in Cowboy land.

Jimmy’s greatest asset was his talent evaluation, Bellichek, when he became HC in NE and started his friendship with Jimmy, that’s the first thing he picked his brain on, his personnel decisions. I remember reading somewhere Pete Carroll in Seattle basically studied how Jimmy Johnson did the draft to totally revamp the Seattle roster.

Jimmy redefined the game, particularly defensively with not only depth, but bringing speedy-quick LBs that moves horizontally really fast, as opposed to the standard LBs of that era, bigger and more husky.

He left coaching to his coordinators primarily.

I know this has about as much of a chance of happening as a snowball's chance in hell, but if Jimmy Johnson were to be lured out of retirement by Jerry, how would you feel about it, and what would be the result.

5 years $60 Million might do it.
Lmao. I see this thread every year on every Cowboys board. Meanwhile, Jimmy is sitting on his boat fishing and laughing at this very thing.

The best part about bringing Jimmy back would be seeing Garrett fired! But in reality anyone would be an improvement over Jason!

I'd love to see Jimmy give it one more shot. That would be a dream scenario.

I think Jimmy was actually frustrated he had to deal with a Marino that had a significantly declining skill set.

When Jimmy took over as coach, Marino was coming off his second best season completion percentagewise. His QB rating in 1995 also was the fifth best of his career. But certainly, Marino had been playing a long time by then and might have hit a wall at the time Jimmy took over as coach.

Man, looking at Marino's numbers, especially TD to int. (252 to 270), you'd wonder how he could be a Hall of Fame quarterback and Romo not be one. I know the passing game has changed a lot over the years, but what was expected of a QB was certainly different.

He hasn't been successful since free agency came to be. His style doesn't work if he can't put his foot on his players throats.
