Could ruin his NFL playing days but I bet that it's a less than 5% chance.

They've been doing non-invasive treatment for 2 years without success.

Tyron needs to quit *****footing around with this, surgically release the impinged nerve, stabilize/strengthen the bony structure, and then get back to being the best NFL offensive lineman in the game. The sooner the better as time is of the essence.

Yoga or Pilates to stretch and strengthen the back/core and a Good flexibility coach... if your hamstrings and gluts are not properly stretched your going to have lower back problems PERIOD, Core strength helps to keep everything in its place.

This really sucks that our 100 million dollar stud LT is only 27 and we're now going to have to find an awesome LT to be a backup in case our stud LT goes down again! Most LT's never miss games in this league....unless it's major.

We think we're set at a position and then we're not. Frustrating as a fan.

Who is Tony?

I don't know of any atrophy associated with Tyron's issue(s) I see that pain appears to be affecting his ability to play football and when he does play he is unable to play at previous levels IMO. How much his other quality of life is affected is unknown. I think maybe he's exhibiting some guarding behaviors which could be contributing to other occurring injuries.

Football is uncertain but it seems that playing football pretty certainly cause Tyron to have recurring back problems, which we assume is pain and not weakness. Conservative treatment hasn't alleviated the problem. Surgery is a crapshoot too.

Romo.

Of course he has no atrophy, or surgery would have been done long ago. He’s had all the specific tests, like nerve conduction studies and mylogram and MRI, rest assured.

You don’t do surgery on a guy who hasn’t had a proper program of rest and rehab.

The trick is to have the necessary depth to make up for guys like Tyron, who have injuries that come along, no matter what. The Cowboys must provide for whatever might occur. Taking a chance that he might last a full season is foolish at this point in time. He's vulnerable to back trouble happening again. That's unfortunate. Take precautions for what may well happen in any given season.

Why is it that when we lose our best player at a position. The whole squad tanks. Is it lack of depth , Coaching or attitude. I see other teams such as Philly this year and GB previously not only survive but thrive.
It's depth but why didn't the coaches recognize and coach up the swing tackle spot. It's never as easy as Im saying but this is why
Pollard is gone.

I thought I read it's not something that can be fixed with surgery...I could be wrong about that tho.
I interpreted Broaddus as saying earlier this year that it is a condition to be managed, not something to be cured.

Which seemed like bad news, which played out in fact.

thats what I remembered.
I just hope an off-season of rest will help it.
doesnt sound like its going away.

Yeah. I don't think so either. I'm sure the offseason rest helps, but Tyron had offseason rest last season too. "Condition to be managed" doesn't sound like something that goes away.

Tyron was on the fast track to the HOF. A shortened career looks more likely. If they don't restructure his contraction this offseason, it will be a big tell that the long term prognosis isn't good.

2 Aleve and an Ice Pack works for me...maybe they should try that.(kidding...totally kidding).

I love your optimism, but when your going against athletic freaks every week, I just don't have very much confidence. I know you were somewhat joking, but HONESTLY this is a very serious MATTER.

Here's an option to keep an eye..........he has Jerry signing written all over him. This guy along drafting young developing LT 3rd or 4th solve this issue.

Paul Alexander could mean Andre Smith is an option as a Cowboys swing tackle in free agency

Anyone looking for a swing tackle?

On Monday word materialized that the Cowboys were hiring Paul Alexander to serve as their new offensive line coach.

Alexander replaces Frank Pollack who left for the same job in Cincinnati, coincidentally the job Alexander is leaving. A switch-a-roo is always fun.

Much was made in the confines of Cowboys social media about Alexander’s proclivity to run a power blocking scheme as opposed to the zone blocking scheme that’s been run in Dallas for some time. It’s not an issue worth getting caught up over

Decompression thetapy was a miracle worker for me.

Very glad that it worked for you, but unfortunately for him he is going against the very best athletes in America, it's gonna put more strain than about any job you can compare it too.

Obviously he is more prone to injury but fixing the injury is the same regardless. Decompression treatment and core strengthening basically corrected a herniated disc for me that gave me issues for 20 years. I think people resort to surgery way to quickly.

Bell and CGreen are solid back-ups...... they aren't starters by pay or skill and no one has backup LTs that should start..... Bell and CGreen both had some good games and bad games

That is ludicrous. Chaz is gone and Bell isn't far behind him. They aren't even back-ups and proved it. The Eagles also lost their all-pro LT and yet still managed to have a great year b/c their back-ups are capable. No way we go into next season with chaz and bell backing up tackle positions.

Ochoa is way off the mark with this idea. Smith isn't a left tackle option at the NFL level and never has been. And given his age and weight, he's more of a guard at this point than even a right tackle. Signing him would be another Byron Bell situation. A guard option that might play right tackle in a pinch who in no way can play on the left side.

You know how it is! Anytime a doctor operates on you he has to tell you that it might not work. Nobody wants to hear that but there are cases where it doesnt work. I would say a high percentage are successful. Everyone scoffed when I said trade him away 2 years ago but now it looks like it unless he gets this surgery he is going to continue to struggle. he should of had it last season!

I had a micro-laminectomy on the L5-S1 and was in and out of the hospital in one day back in the 90's

It relieved the sciatic pain and let me golf like a fiend for the next 15 years

TSmith should be fine without the surgery as it is a pain management thing and he can plan for it around game times....any type of fusion procedure would be a lot more serious
Its interesting when you think about it! Fusing his vertebrae might mean the end of the line for football. He is so big and the position involves tossing around 300lb guys it might not hold up.

So what's the plan to fix this monster? I've heard bulging disc all season, but he hasn't been in for surgery etc. from what I've heard. Is he ever going to be the same again? I'm not a back expert so I'm asking who has input etc?

Tyron is only 27.....crazy!
he is 27, but been in the league for 7. once you have back problems, they remain with you specially if its not just muscular and maybe structural......we need to draft a swing tackle this year, even as high as the 3rd round.
